Can anyone give me any info about the AI cartriges. Particularly the 270 AI. I know nothing about the AI loads so any info is usefull to me. I would appreciate any velocity comparisons you could provide for me.

Any opinions about the 270 AI are also welcome.........

The AI is a blown out case with a 40 degree shoulder. At least in the case of the 280AI, MAX loads with the 280 Rem would be starting loads for the 280AI. These would also be your fire forming cases. You would then work up from there. You can expect about 100-200 fps gain over the parent cartridge but this will also depent on your barrel and chamber.

Have you thought about getting a 270 WSM? You would get the same velocities over a 270 but have availability of brass without having to form it. Its just a thought, seems like it would be a little easier. I believe the WSM has about 100-150fps over the standard 270.

Good thing about the AI is you can shoot the originial cartridge if you need/want to. I have seen some AI's that shot quite well with the originial cartridge.

Use to have one and sold it to a hunting buddy. I will call him and see if he will post something on this site.Rick.

I almost tried it once. Not worth it. Get a 270 wsm instead.

I have one, It is about 100- 150 fps faster then the standerd cal.
Mine is loaded with 62.0 Gr. of IMR 4831, 130 Gr. Nosler AccuBond, 3,586 fps, through my chrony.

Seems mighty fast!!!

The AI's are pretty effecient. in my 280AI, I'm getting 3000 fps with the 160 gr AB and 3250 fps with the 140 gr AB. Thats 7mm RM performance!
I would think the a 270 AI would yeild similar results although it also depends on the barrel, barrel length, and how ight the chamber is.

That is NOT normal...at all!

You're busting 270 WBY velocities and that ain't healthy in any 270 win case...and I do not care how different rifles are from one to another.

Caveat: Disregard above statement if you have a 32" barrel or something.
