How fast can one hope to push a 160 AccuBond with one of these? How fast with the A I version and what benefits does it have over the 7 MM REM.

saw where someone had said 3000 fps with a stock 280 rem, but not sure about that one? would you be way over pressure?

I can get over 3000 fps with the 160 gr AB from my 280 AI with a 24" barrel.

A new 24" barrel for a 280 Rem using 160gn Partitions got the average velocities below.

Powder Gn Ft/sec
Supreme 780 58 2824, 2888 (two runs)
Supreme 780 59.5 2968
Varget 47 2750

The first 58gn load was a better group and had a lower average velocity. The load with Varget was very good.

Again the top are conservative loads that have plague the 280 since inception!

My 22" barreled 280 does 2950 FPS with the 150 ETip. I loaded some of the 160 ABs with 7828SSC but accuracy wasn't as good so I didn't run them over the chrony.

Those loads were only 40K CUP. With IMR 7828 SSC, a shooter can get 3000 fps at about 60K CUP or less with Partition 160 grain bullets. Try 58.0 grains which is a book load in some books for the .280 Rem (not AI). My .280 belongs to our grandson now, but he uses 160 Partition hand loads that I made which chronograph at 3010 fps with that load of IMR 7828 and a Federal 215 Mag Match primer in W-W plated cases. BTW, that load has no pressure signs in my (ex) Browning A-Bolt.

I found the book loads by Hornady, Hodgdon, and Lyman to be way lower than what a 280 Rem can take without problems. I found a few loads that were too much and caused the primer cavity to expand. Only one hot load had a ring of residue around the primer.

The Nosler #7 reloading manual is the only one I know of that recognize the bolt action 280s will take heavier loads. I wouldn't be surprised if the newest Barnes manual has loads nearly equal to the Nolser 7.
