3 for 3 at a G

That's excellent marksmanship. In a mild wind condition, the 6.5-284 will be hard to beat. Our last 1K shoot, the 2nd and 3rd place finisher in the non magnum class scored 250/16x and 248/12x respectively. Both shoots 6.5X47 Lapua. Guess what's the 1st place winner... 30-06 Ackley with the score of 250/18X.

I'm mulling between 260 Ackley or 6.5X47 Lapua on my next build. The result from our last competition made my decision easy. 6.5X47 it will be.

Jeff,

Nice shooting at those small targets!
Using the 6.5-284 with a 140 gr A-Max at 2950, what MOA are you dialing for 1k?

JD338

The altitude density for that condition was 6005 ft. the sight height on that rifle is 2.005" that translated into 24.25 moa for that distance. The key to that whole deal is making that first shot on the larger target and correcting with the reticle on the next two. A 1/4 moa is 2.60+inches at that distance, so if your not dead on with your moa one click will induce a miss. I was lucky the condition held for the time I shot the three targets, a low standard deviation in velocity 0-7 fps helps a lot as well.

Good choice I just recently started playing with a 6.5x47 lapua I acquired. I loaded some 130g vlds with 40g of H4350 accuracy is awesome and velocity the my oehler showed 2810-2815 fps. This results in 2 mils less at 1k over my 308 with a hornady 168bthp match going 2780. They feed flawlessly through a magazine as well. I think if you use premium parts on your build you will be more than happy. I do have some 123g scenars and amaxes I need to try as well. I will keep you posted as I try them.

Jeff -
Did you look at making that a Dasher? That is what I am thinking about for my next build.

No I haven't the way it shoots and feeds and for the application it will be used for I think the standard 6.5x47 is perfect

It will be built around a Remington 700 Action. I already have an 8 twist Kreiger and McMillan A5 on hand but I might opt for another AI chassis just like my 308. I just love the ergonomics of the AI. As for the bullet, It will be toss up between the 139 Scenar or the 140 Berger Match VLD.

Same here. Excellent hunting bullet too. Hammered this whitetail at 603 yards with authority.

What was left of the 140.

Nice shooting desert fox! Did you hit any major bone or shoulder? Did the core separate from the jacket and exit? I like the vld bullet I have shot a few deer with them but always had the bullet exit. They do seem to kill rather efficiently! Massive wound channels.

The core and the jacket separated. I found the jacket lodge between two ribs underneath the hide. The core went somewhere else. Never found it. It made a puree of the deer internal organs.

All this has me thinking I need to set aside some of the casting projects , and get back to work on the XP.
So many projects, so little time sux somtimes.

I do not even dream of shooting that well.
You guys abilites are fantastic, I know that I can learn more from you both. !

To make three consecutive hit on small target at 1K not only says much about Jeff's ability, but most importantly the quality and consistency of his handload. Single digit ES and SD doesn't happened by accident! It can be controlled however through meticulous handloading. There's no other way.

Well stated, Rommel. Consistency in every aspect of shooting is the key.
