I am new here and must admit that reloading, shooting and hunting to me are like crack to a drug addict... I "Geared Up" to go to Montana and told my wife on the return, "now I have all this equipment I need to use it, I don't need to buy more" my mistake.. to say the last part... :( I do have a 1980's vintage Rem700 BDL in 270 Win. that could be rebarreled to a Whalen if I saw the need.. hunting something larger than elk. Maybe I should just think about a trade-in for a Whalen, but again I have no plans to hunt bigger or shoot further than the '06 is capable..

It is nice to be able to post on this forum rather than just surf as a guest. :)
Welcome! These guys are great. If you don't plan on hunting any larger than elk maybe a 6.5 -06 is in your future!

Rol_P,
Welcome Aboard. I have a 30-06 and just love the thing, BUT I do have a 35 Whelen too that is my favorite. Shooting 225 Accubonds at 2700 fps not much is standing when I pull the trigger.

I shot 180 bullets in the 30-06 for years hunting Whitetails, most shots were always just 1-shot kills. It's a great versatile cartridge.

I have always used IMR 4350 (56.0 Grs) with the 180 SP and the 210 Primer. Usually I use W-W cases with my Model 70 Winc.
