Can some of you out there share your 30-06 loads using 165 Partitions. Recipes please.
Love my 165 Ballistic Tip load but killed a Doe this morning ruined the shoulder due to hitting bone
looked like a bomb went off inside her. I believe switching to the Partition will keep the bullet together a little more.

Thanks,
Don

Don, I'd load the exact same thing your running with the BT. I wouldn't even touch the seating die and try it. I'm betting you'd be pretty close with maybe just a little tweaking, if any needed.

It will not matter what bullet you use if you hit the scapula in the shoulder it will mess it up. If you want to save the shoulder don't shoot the shoulder. Myself I am a shoulder shooter when possible because I like to do my tracking before I shoot not after. I usually get a bang flop with the shoulder shot. There is not that much real meat on the average deers front shoulders anyway after you get rid of all that plastic like stuff.

Look no further than the 165 PT with H4350 and WLR primers. Start with 55.5 and work up from there. Once you get about 2800 fps you'll be in the sweet spot! :)

Have been hunting with a .30-06 since I was 18 and this is my go to load for everything!

Good luck and good hunting!

Thanks Scotty, I will try that, stands to reason.

1Shot,
I got ya. I usually try for behind the front leg lung shot, but due to the situation I had to hurry and take a fast snap shot today. Hitting the deer on the front left corner as she was facing me. It hit so much bone and literally destroyed the shoulder and front leg, shot was 30-yards. My fault for all that but hey I got a deer and I'm thankful for that.
Now if I had taken the 35 Whelen...............

Thanks for the replies,
Don

Thanks filmjunkie,
My current load with the 165 BT is using 59.5 of H4350 and CCI250 Primers. I'm going to try what Scotty suggested with the Partition. I'd like to stay with that powder as my gun really likes it.

57-60gr of IMR4350, work up carefully, is a time-honored 165gr bullet load for the 30-06.

I'm at 57.0gr under a 165 PT in my pre64. Velocities are around 2700, which is less than I set out to get, but it's a good shooter and easy on the shoulder. When I want a hotter 30-cal, I take my 300WSM or 300H&H. :)

Agreed with the posts above. Several of my 06 like 57.5 of 4350 behind a variety of 165gr bullets.

Scotty gave a great suggestion and I think your load should be just fine. I did that with the Partition and the AccuBond in my 30-06 w/o changing the seating depth with the load I had for the Partitions when I tried the Accubonds. No messing around was needed, it just flat out shot.

My load in two 30-06 has been Winchester brass, Federal 210 primer, 165 gr. AccuBond or Partition, and 57.4 grs. of IMR4350. Your H4350 should work equally as well.

Yep I know all about those quick snap shots. I messed up the front portion of the back strap on a deer this year. The deer popped out in the logging road I was hunting on at 175 yards and was walking across. I only had time to get behind the rifle that was already sitting on my shooting rail facing that way flip the safety off and swing toward the front shoulder and bang. I hit just a little too high but when the 25-06 recovered from recoil all I saw was four legs sticking straight up in the air and then they fell over sideways.

1shot,
That made me laugh, I think we all have been there at times too. Okay a little ruined meat is worth getting the deer IMO. Good replies from everyone and thank-you, you're the best.

Don

Don, I used 57.5 grains of IMR4350 with 165s with good results. If I were to re-do my starting point today I would use H4350 (or try the new IMR4451 coming out).

I switched to Partitions for deer a couple of years ago when i found a BT jacket inside a small doe. The doe died from the BT, and I wouldn't say I had problems with the bullet at all. It's just I've never recovered a Partition, even from elk, and Partitions seem to kill very "cleanly".
