I am going to try loading some 180 btips in my Sauer 30-06 with CCI200 primers and Win Brass.

I have RL19/RL22/IMR435/H4350 on hand. What one would you try first???

Looking to get 2725-2775 fps and 1 MOA accuracy.

Any of the powders you list will work well in your 30-06. IMR 4340 or H 4350 are classic powders that would likely get the nod in my own work.

I'm with Mike. 4350 or 19 would probably be my two picks. Either should get you into the range you wanna be.

With the other two fine gentlemen above.........IMR4350 and H4350 are what I would try first. IMR4350 is the powder I use in my own 30-06.

Not arguing, but I just looked at Nosler 7 and they list RL22 as the most accurate and fastest powder for the 180 grain bullets????

55, 56, 57 H4350 pending on rifle.

From antelope to elk

IMR4350 was my go to powder in the 30-06. 55.0-56.0 grs will get you 2750ish and sub MOA.

If Those were the powders I had on hand I would load up five shells with h4350 and 5 with Re 22 and head to the range and let you're gun do the talking. That Winchester brass is a little roomier than other brands of brass and you're going to need it if you're going to push up the loads on the Re 22. If you get a chance pick up a bottle of re 17.... You'll get all the speeds of compressed loads of Re 22 and great accuracy too.....

I use IMR4350 in my 06 with 180 Btips. I had better sub moa accuracy with fed 210 over WLR primer.

I tried that combo in my 30-06 Rem 700 22" barrel. I can tell you RL-22 is not the powder for my gun the groups were not that good. BUT there was promise with H4350.

Well, I caved and went against the grain. I loaded up some 180s with RL22. I will let you know how they shoot next time I hit the range. I hope this weekend but I have a turkey tag to fill first.

RL-22 does real well in my savage 110 with 180 PT,s. Definitely worth a try I think.

I've never reached the velocity Nosler shows for RL-22 in the .30-06, but it did shoot well!

Perhaps of interest, when my buddy took his .300 Win mag to South Africa for plains game, he and his PH were both very impressed with the performance of the 180 he Ballistic Tip. He shot quite a variety of game with it, and got quick kills.

With R22, 60.5-61 grains shot very well in my Remington with the 22" barrel. That's with both ballistic tips and partitions. The velocity wasn't as high as listed. When I shot the same loads in the Weatherby with the 24" barrel, the velocity was a bit higher and also shot well. The extra 2" seemed to give the load a boost.

On 9-9-2006 I loaded 10 cartridges with 61.5 grains RL 22; pushing 180 grain BT and PT. groups were 1.0 and 1.2 respectively. Distance 300 yards.
Log book does not indicate velocity and a note reads good enough for now. Flipping through 10 years of data; I'm still using that load.
Good luck

I'd go w/ the 4350's before the Alliant's. I've never loaded RL-22, but I sure had poor velocities from 19, as opposed to what was published. (like, 200fps slower, YMMV)

Right now, I'm trying to score some of the new RL-16. It's posting some pretty impressive numbers, if the are to be believed.

The 180 BT has been a go-to for many moons out of my 308. Should be a Winner in your '06 as well.

WT. I just chronographed 61.5 grains of RL 22 in my rifle. Five shots averaged 2876 fps. Hope this helps.
