I have a single shot .30-30 rifle I reload for, and I like to load speer point bullets for it.
I'm concerned about the lack of velocity. What velocity is adequate for the 150 gr ballistic tip Noslers on Whitetail deer.
? Can the .30-30 reach the level of performance needed for these bullets?

BTW
150 gr Spitzer over 36 gr of IMR4350 is a super accurate round for the .30-30 single shot rifle.

I posted a similar question about the 125 gr BT. The 125 will perform reliably in deer size game out to normal 30-30 ranges. In fact it keeps a better energy and velocity level than the more traditional 30-30 bullets. I haven't started loading for the 30-30 yet, but I think you can safely push the 125 BT to 2550-2600 fps. Don't know how the 150 computes. It might fall below the velocity threshold that allows it to expand reliably. Let's see what the Nosler guys say.

The Ballistic Tips require an impact velocity of 1600 fps for expansion.
In a 14" barrel we acheived 21 to 2300 fps with the 125 and 2000 fps+ with the 150 grain BT.

Thank you very much! That is the answer I had hoped for.
