Just got a box of them and they sure are long. I haven't had chance to compare bearing surface length against the 168gr TSX be interesting how they shoot.

A friend of mine used them this past fall in his 30-06AI. Well under ,5 MOA accuracy and complete penetration on antelope and elk. He and his son each took a cow elk and he also shot an antelope. He is very pleased with the performance.

I am more excited to try this bullet in my 06 than any other bullet I have seen so far. I hunt elk at 10,000 feet and this bullet should be effective up to 600 yards if it can accurately be lauched at velocities similar other 168 grain bullets.

You should get plenty of penetration from the 168 gr E-Tip in your 30-06.
Let us know how the load development goes.

I had good luck with the 150gr E-Tip in 30-06 on late cow hunt and weather been so lousy here may have to wait on the 168gr. I plan on using them in a another 30-06 maybe 300WSM I mike them there 1.395" long. Hard to say on velocity about the best I've got with the 30-06 I want to use is 3066fps with 165gr bullets with the 5r twist in that barrel be interesting with that long bearing surface bullet. Well good luck

When I ran the ballistic at 10,000 feet I still had over 2,000 fps and over 1500 ft/lbs KE at 750 yards, assuming I can get 3,000 fps muzzle velocity like the Ballistic Tip.

I am hoping to use the 168 BT for Deer and 168 Etip for Elk. To put it into perspective my 06 with the 168 etip shoots flatter than factory 300 WM ammo with the old gold standard elk load 180 grain Partition. It also has higher energy downrange starting at around 400 yards. It will probably open quicker because of the higer impact velocities and penetrate better also because of the 95% weight retention.

If they were only giving them away for free they would be the perfect bullet!

I may have to try those in my 30-06AI

The nice guy that I am, I gave my buddy a box of the 168 gr E-Tip AFTER he was done with his load development and getting ready to hunt WY antelope and elk.

He called me to say he had just shot one of his best groups ever with his 30-06 AI and was changing his load! He shot a goat and cow elk with it and his son also shot a cow elk using the 30-06 AI and the 168 gr E-Tip.
I will get the load if you are interested.

Yes, you are a nice guy, as yet no one has sent me a box!!

JD, I would be interested in that load, thanks!

Here is the response from my buddy on the 30-06 AI 168 gr E-Tip load-

58 grains of H4831 with BR primers. About .50" I think I could have done better with more development. I hated to use all the bullets in development and then miss on the animals and not have any left. I dumped the bullet on what worked for me before and called it good. Didn’t know what else to do.

One elk was 300 yards away. Rib to rib. Exit hole was Half dollar size little bigger. This was Chris’s elk

My elk was 100 yards running away. I hit it in the rear end broke the hip. It didn’t die very quickly and kept going so I kept shooting. This got messy and was hard to tell which one did what to the animal.

Mike.

When you get a chance would you measure the bearing surface and post your findings. I noticed the 168 is nearly the same length as the 180 etip and a lot longer that the 150s so I am guessing its bearing surface is quite a bit less than the 180s/150s which may reduce pressures relative to the other 30 cal etips.

If you could maintain that 3066 fps with the etip it sure would be hard to beat performance wise. Could you share the particulars with that load. Powder charge bullet, barrel length etc.

Bearing surface is .692" appr. The 30-06 I'm going to try them in has 25" long fluted 1/11 twist Bartlein 5r barrel on Win action in a McMillian stock. I also had that rifle throated alittle long.

I work my load up first for accuracy then chronograph don't think I'm chasing velocity only. I'm 132fps over Hodgdon published data using 60gr/IMR-4350 @ 2934fps with165gr Sierra bullet they have the max load of 58gr/IMR-4350 with 168gr Hornady bullet @ 2903fps and that's the load I'll be working up.

The 150gr E-Tips in my other 30-06 has a Shilen 1/13 Ratchet twist barrel that been an interesting project.
