.338, any one have any on game experience?

shooting them out of the .338 edge. nice groups. should put a real hurtin on some timber ghost.

burned a few down the .340 bee but it prefers the 225 gr and 250 gr.

just wondering if any one had in any real world experience with them.

I shot a few crop damage deer with the 300 gr AB from a 338 RUM at just under 2700 fps at ranges from 90 yds to 439 yds. All were DRT.

The 300 gr AB is a great bullet but I went back to the 250 gr AB because it shoots flatter.

I don't suppose you fellas would know why Remington chose to go with the .338 rum the it is now as apposed to something like the .338 edge?

I have wondered about this for some time.

To stop some idiot of firing it in a 300 rum rifle. Or the opposite. Makes no sense!

really?

why wouldn't they make the.308 cal smaller then the .338. and why leave the 7mm/.284 version the same as the .308..... your right that makes no sense.

Yes, really.

Remington released the .338 RUM along with the other Rem Ultra Mags and made it a little different to keep Yahoos from putting it in the wrong rifle and blowing things up.

The .338 Edge came along later. Shawn Carlock in Idaho (among others, but he named it the Edge) took a look at the .338 RUM case and must have thought "Hmmm. There's more powder space avail if I want to make it happen...." So the .338 Edge was born. Not all THAT much velocity difference between those two and the .338 Lapua anyway. They're all good.

Regards, Guy

I love the power and accuracy of the 338 RUM BUT it should have been what the 338 Edge is.
Agree, makes no sense to me.

wow.

isn't the 7mm rum the same case as the 300 rum? wouldn't that be almost the same thing (as oppose to stuffing a .308 in a .338)?

fotis you have blown my pea size brain to pieces.

That is also why they made the 7WSM longer than the .270 or .300 WSM's. So you can't cross-chamber.

wait..... the 7mm wsm is longer then the .270 and 300. wsm..

I think I feel an aneurism forming. what about the 325wsm.

you guys are killing me

ot3,

I think you might be joshing me

my nosler manual says that there all 2.100" case length.

Case length is the same; the shoulder is set forward on the 7mm WSM. SAAMI standards are that case length on either case is 2.100 inches. Distance to the top of the shoulder on the 7mm WSM is 1.857 inches and 1.802 inches on the 300 WSM. Distance to the initiation of the shoulder on the 7mm WSM is 1.702 inches and 1.663 inches on the 300 WSM.

Tricky little devils.

old trader ill never doubt you again, thought you where goofing me :)

this seems to be common knowledge. figures im the last to know.

thanks guys for re teaching me that there's always something to learn

First post, kev350? Welcome aboard. Trust you join in the fun on a regular basis. It's a good group posting here.

kev350.. welcome..

I spent a couple of evenings reading about this. must of been a few that place a 7mm in .264 in the past, more likely a .260 in a 7mm-08 and made a grenade out of there rifle.

there has been a lot of scuttle about these rounds (WSM)
and there potential as wild cats
