Hi ya fellas!
I have been tinkering with my old Savage M99 EG. My grandpa bought it new & it was the first centerfire rifle I was given as a kid. I have had very good luck with 150gr. hornadys & 4064. Just wondering if there are any gents out there reloading for this who would share there favorites for it. I have a surplus of 180 Partition protected points I am going to mess around with this week end.

The 300 Savage and the M99 are classics.
IMR 4064 is a good powder choice but you could also try IMR 4895, IMR 3031 and AA 2015.

Let us know how she shoots.

RL-15 is the best in my EG. It gives more velocity and better accuracy than any other in mine with 165 grain bullets.

I use the 130 grain Hornady SP in my 300 Savage with 43.5 grains of Varget. This yields a chronoggraphed muzzle velocity of 2780 fps.

IMR 4895 and Varget have worked the best for me in a 30X47 HBR which is a 300 Savage with the shoulder pushed back ten thousands but left the same OAL. Try you some 125 ballistic tips and work up toward 43 grs IMR 4895 for a real bang flop deer killing round.

My grandfather was another 300 Savage M99 user! He killed tons of deer with it and it still resides in the family. I would think Varget, the 4895's and RL15 would be great powder. The 180gr Protected Points would be good medium range bullets. I think the suggestion of a 125gr BT would be dynamite on deer and be pretty flat shooting. Put a picture of that rifle up if you have one. Great combo. Scotty

The Model 99 was a great rifle. It would be great to see it return to the Savage line-up, though I suppose costs would be prohibitive.

I have been using RL 15 in a couple of M99 300 Savages and in my Remington 700 Classic in the same chambering. It has worked spectacularly in them all, delivering stellar accuracy and high velocities. Other powders I have used with success include IMR 4064 and Varget. Regards, Eagleye.
