Well, I plan on working with the 210 ABLR's some in my son's new to him 300 Weatherby. I was able to grab some of the 210 ABLR 2nds on SPS, so I figured it would really push them big bullets real nice. I am an avid user of RL22, RL25 and 7828, so with a couple quick looks at QL, those powders seem to do real well with that cartridge and bullet. Nosler has some good data on their online guide as well for 22, 4831 and 4350. All of those would be fine with me as well. It really looks like 2900 or better is an attainable goal.

Any thoughts or advice on seating? I know I won't be reaching the rifling with the bullets, should I just load for Noslers 3.560" COAL and work from there? Also, any of you with already known good loads I'd love to hear about them.

And, the golden question, who has used the 210 ABLR on game. This rifle will be set up strictly for elk. I am sure it'll get used for other stuff, but elk is the main piece of the puzzle. Love to hear some reports, if they are out there.

Good thing Brandon's new cannon has a brake on it! I was playing with those 210ABLRs in my Win 70 300RUM and they were fairly stout without a brake. That light MK5 might kick a little without it's brake. They shot well but not great. I plan on finishing load development this spring. I'm pretty sure playing with the OAL they'll tighten up. I was using Retumbo and RL25.

Never shot anything but factory ammo in mine while I had it.
It shot the Weatherby 180 gr loads with Hornady bullets very well.

I seem to remember reading that Weatherby factory ammo used Norma MRP ?
With that case I would also look at H1000 if you have any .

Scotty , I have not tried any of the ABLR's . I've been using H1000 powder , but IMR7828 sure showed some promise . I'm loading 180 accubonds in my 300 wby . only thing I've shot with it has been a couple whitetails . I load to magazine length and work shorter from there . this way you only have one direction to go .
I'm really thinking hard on getting out west again for elk . I planned on getting into a heaver bullet if my trip does happen . I'll be very interested in what you come up with on these ABLR's . Brandon's rifle looks , and sounds , to be a twin to mine .

What little I've shot mine it seems to like the 180gr Hornady SP interlock with 79.5gr of H-4831 .5" groups at 100yds. the 200gr ABs loaded with 74grs of RL22 shoots well also.

Scotty,

I would think Retumbo and RL33 would be good powders to try as well.

when I messed with a 300 weatherby it really liked IMR 7828 . Those 210 ablr I suspect will be awesome.Lee

Thanks fella's, seems like anything in the 4350 up RL33 looks pretty good actually.

I might be able to find a little MRP as well to try out. I do have some good hopes for it..

Actually, I have a few rifles I need to get out and shoot, so it should make for a good spring.

This is what QL is looking like with the 210's. Pretty impressive I'd say. This isn't even taking into account the Wby freebore.

I have never loaded for a 300 Weatherby but started loading some for a friend. I loaded 180 grain Ballistic Tips over 7828 to the max COAL in the book. It looked a little silly because the bullet was seated so far in the case and there was so much case intrusion with a 180 Grain BT. I can't imagine with a 210 Grain ABLR. There has to be significant case intrusion good luck and let me know what you find out.

210 grain ABLR at 3000 ft./s should just flat out thump an elk. I can't wait to hear how it did next October or November.

Did you see this in the Nosler 2014 catalog?

Thanks Todd. Good info! Figure I'll start at max mag length. Only one way to go from there!

Your right, that 210 at 2900-3000 should be serious.

Scottty,

I just finished working up loads for the 190 gr. NAB L/R in a new 300 Wby. Vanguard. The best powder I found was IMR7828. I know you're using the 210 gr. bullet so my loads won't help but I found that the Vanguard's magazine length limited me to 3.580 and it shot OK but not as accurate as the 180 NAB. I think a little longer OAL would have done the trick. The amount of down range energy was phenomenal and put 2000 fpe out to 800 yds vrs 600 yds with the 180 gr. I may try to shorten my OAL and see if I can find a sweet spot.
Good Luck
Greg

Thanks Greg. That's what I was wondering about. Not sure how long the mag is for the MK5's? Either way, I'll load them long and see what happens. Figure I'll work them up to around 2900 or so and see what happens if I alter seating depth.

Your right, that's my biggest draw to them, I don't shoot ultra long, but these should really hold onto energy really well.

Scotty

It looks like RL33 might be a winner and get you to 3000 fps.
That amount of horsepower with a chalk line trajectory will take some of the guess work out.
A bull at 500 yards is in deep dark trouble!

Yeah, it does look good, that's for sure!

I will see what I have on the bench, I'd imagine I have just about everything but darned RL33..
