I'm looking for a load ( I always work up to it, no fear) with a temp stable powder that gets and honest 3200fps with the 175 LRX? I normally hunt around freezing, maybe a bit cooler. I used R23 but only got 3100 or so. I have an assortment of Magnum. R17, R16, H4831, H4350, IMR 7828, and so forth. I have some rounds to try with IMR 7828, anyone like this powder for that? My plan is to get all the "oomph" I can from this combo. But if the IMR powders are stable enough (in the magnum) I'll set up for one of them. I have a new Leupold 2.5x8 with the dial em in turret I will set up for this one load. (I decided to shoot all the oddball weights on my shelf/styles with my 30-06.

I'm running 75 Grains of RL26 with a 180 grain Federal. Primer is a Federal 215M and the Rifle is a Christensen Arms with a 26 inch barrel. Velocity is 3212 and accuracy is great. The only difference with my rifle is that it's been throated to handle the 180 grain Federal at 3.600. The may be a breaker for you.

I ran into trouble with R26 (in a .280 awhile back) when it got over 85 deg, which it can do out here easy. Last cow elk i took I had to go on Labor Day Weekend ( couple years ago) and it was 91 deg during the day. it finally cooled off to a 86 that evening, but I got my cow. That was with the R23 73gr/175 LRX load. But thanks again pard. :) P.S. Hot, sweltering weather and elk Hunting is an oxymoronic experience for me! Arrgh. lol

N570 may as well be Green Moon Cheese right now, ha. I do have a bit of N560 my current loads aren't accurate enough. Thank you for taking the time to post the info Pard!

it's scarce for sure , I did get an 8 pounder a few months ago .

by looking at the numbers N570 is your best choice of powder to meet your requirements . it maxes out at 3273 FPS so you won't have to push the pressure sky high . it has a reputation of being temp stable . I've messed with it a little , and I like what I see . I have not messed with it enough to see how temp stable it is .

RL33 is not temp stable .
RL26 didn't work for you .
RL25 is not temp stable .
N560 didn't work for you .
after N560 the powders are so close to the 3200 FPS that you might not reach your goal , without upping the pressures .

I know we want what we want, because we want it, but is there a reason why you are looking for that specific MV goal?
Your impact velocity is going to be plenty high for that bullet to work great at almost any distance that most people would hunt at.
My Curious George is on😊

I looked a long time this AM for some N570...no joy. So...I'm just going to work up with the Ramshot Magnum and whatever gives me the best accuracy "around" 3100 I'll be happy with! As I said, I will dial it in anyhow with this scope. No real need for 3200 (heck, I would have got another 300 RUM if I wanted that for sure) just wanted it, ha. I agree, plenty of energy for anything.

To bad RL-26 won’t cut it for you , that would be an ideal case fill. N570 is good powder just need a lot to stuff in case to hit your targeted velocity.

I know this is weird, but this is just the way my mind works. When I see the subject matter here I just want to be reading about a post hearing about a 300WM with 175 grain bullet hitting a target at 3200 yards!

I keep watching for N570 . if I find it online , I'll try to remember to tell you .

Heck, I used 76gr R22 / Barnes 180 XBT for several years, but it got wonky too in hot weather. I like R23, but accuracy hung up around 3080fps, which was fine. I now have some Magnum and for grins, loaded some with IMR 7828. See what I get.

The prices on the Vihtavuori powder has sure gone up! Still, these are excellent propellants, and VN570 is excellent in overbore cartridges. I've used a ton of it during the past years.

Vihtavuori powders are hard for me to get locally , so I shied away from them . now that powders are so hard to find I've bought the last few jugs online , including N570 . I've only messed with it a little , but I do like what I see . I'll have to check with the local gunshops to see if they can order it in for me . I don't think any of them sell it .

must have been a large shipment of N570 . I seen a few guys say midway usa , midsouth shooters , and powder valley , all had it today . midway usa price was about $30 more than the others , for an 8 pound jug .

Brownells had 1 pound N570 yesterday , for a very short time . getting supplies is like hunting ; be in the right place , at the right time .
