300wm+Retumbo

Randy, that 165 load sounds like a keeper. I would never mess with a load that shot like that consistently, and heck you are hurling a 165 into the 3100+ range at least. Plus, H4831 is very stable and should work the same now as it will in the Summer. Sounds like a great load. Scotty

What's your load in the 270 WSM? if you don't mind sharing.
I worked up a load with H4831sc in mine that does well but since I already have Retumbo I might have to try it.

Randy

One rifle likes 69.0gr of Retumbo and 215 primers, the other prefers a 71.0gr of Retumbo with 140gr Accubonds. This is a COMPRESSED LOAD!! Two identical Tikka T3 LS rifles...one just likes a bit more powder. Both shoot under 0.5" groups. The other rifle can shoot the Compressed loads, just the groups spread out to just under 1". I like TIGHT GROUPS!!! Even for a hunting rifle.

I used my reloads of 69.0gr in a friend's new Tikka T3 camo 270WSM last year sighting in his rifle as he forgot his factory ammo at home that day we went to the range. His rifle shot those reloads just like mine...under 0.5" groups.

Is my first entry in this forum Hi to all
This weekend I was shoting some bullets with the charge you say and they went touching itself when I do my part beneath the rifle ( a Franz Sodia ) .
It's really a very good handload , now I want to ask you something:
What primer you use ? this bullets were using CCI 200
What do you think about changing RE22 with MRP from which I have some stock?
Thank's for your answer

If my memeory serves me correctly Norma MRP and RL-22 are one in the same. You can certainly use MRP but just to be safe, which is aways a very good idea, I would back off by a couple of grains to start and work but to the load you used with RL22.

Gtrotz,

Welcome to the forum. It is good to have you posting. I'd recommend a magnum primer for your 300 WM. If you have access to F215 primers, that would be the ticket. CCI250 will work just fine, however, if you have them. I would not hesitate to use MRP in the place of RL22. I have been told that MRP, R905 and RL22 are each manufactured by one company (Bofors) and repackaged by the respective powder marketing firm. Just remember to drop back and work up to verify that you have a safe load with any change in components.

Welcome to the forum! Scotty

Thank you very much to all.
I'm just sizing the cases to start the loading and am going to use MRP and Federal 215 as you suggest
In a few days I report what happens.
I have some limited reload experience ( not to much) in metric calibers also (7x57/,7x64/,7x66/,6,5x54/ ,6,5x68/,8x60/,8x68/,9,3x62/,9,3x64/, 10,75x68,and some more of the american calibers).
Anything you want to share about them I'm here but I repeat that my knowledge is limited and this is not my native language so I apologize for the mistakes I do.
Well, I don't want to bore you, thank you very much again ,this is a very good forum.
Sincerely
Gtrotz

Your in good company buddy! Sounds like you have plenty of good loading time. Those sound like some cool cartridges. I wanna see that 10.75! That sounds like a beast! Pictures are always welcome here too! Scotty

You have loaded some excellent cartridges. Sadly, some of them are virtually unknown in North America. While the 7 x 57, and to a lesser extend the 8 x 57, are well-known in North America. The 7 x 64 and 8 x 68 just didn't ever catch on. It is great to see the new recognition for the 9.3 X 62. I'm actually in the process of building a 9.3 X 64. I'm quite anxious to have it in my hands by this fall.

Mike -
The 7X64 is really a nice caliber. i took my Sako chambered in that caliber and turned it into the .338-06, that is now my favorite rifle (at least until the 6.5 WSM get here).

The 7X64 is indeed a great cartridge. I'm eying an 8X68 as a build at some point in the future, but because. Pushing a 250 grain Woodleigh at 2700 fps would put a load of hurt on a moose or a grizzly.

gtrotz,

Welcome to the forum!
MRP is very very close to RL 22 and I have heard that it is one in the same. I can neither confirm or deny...
I have always used mag primers, Federal GM215M to be specific.
Give MRP a try but remember to start low and work up.

Bill,

There is not a thing wrong with heavy for calibre. Frankly, it will take another generation or so, but the whiz boys of today will "discover" that heavy works pretty well and damages less meat in about another twenty years of so.

I concur. Heavy bullets always work.

JD338

Heavy bullets RULE!! I know the light ones work, but with these big cases we (I) am/are using, I figure it is more fun shooting the big'uns! Scotty
