I was glad to see that Nolser was going to make a 168gr E-Tip and the higher BC compared to the 168gr TSX at .404 that I been using.

Last month Kreiger announced they were going to make 5r barrels got the Ok from Obermeyer. I'd been going back and forth on getting a 7mm/30cal barrel for (7WSM/300WSM). Make a long story short gunsmith ordered a 30 cal CM #3 contour 5r 1/11.25 barrel from Kreiger should finish 26"?. Got a Win model 70 270WSM be the donor.

Sounds like it's going to be a good one. I had good results using H4350 with my .300 WSM...

This sounds like a fascinating project. I am very interested in hearing your results as you have opportunity to handle it and work up the loads.

30-338: Who's going to do the work for you?

I've been really curious about the accuracy potential of the 300 WSM when put together by a top smith. My instincts tell me it should really shoot, but I haven't seem many reports on it from custom rifles.

P.S. Yes, I would finish it at 26".

I use a local gunsmith.

Let see Jan 14,2004, I got my new 300WSM model 70 action
squared,McMillian stock,Jewell trigger,Broughton 5c SS #4 countour 1/12 twist 24" long barrel OAL 2.950". I replaced the Jewell with factory tuned trigger.

I've never had the need past 180gr bullets in my deer/elk rifles that are 30 cal but I was concern about load density with the WSM case. I figured the ideal bullet for that rifle be 165/168gr and I had afew loads that would do 3300fps best with 180 was 3191fps. I had some 5 shot groups in the .2's that's good enough. At the time I was shooting that rifle I also was shooting custom 300Wby,300mag all done by the same gunsmith accuracy was about the same in all three rifles.

I used the same OAL on my 270WSM that has a Lawton cut barrel on 70 action and I'll do the same on the new 300WSM. Reason I did the 26"? there sending barrel at 29" be interesting.

That sounds like a nice build! I have only shot 150BT's through the 300 I just got, but plan on 180AB's as my main elk hunting bullet. I'm staying with leaded bullets until the commies here in Minnesota make me change. :x Just picked up some more RL22 as one possible powder, but plan on trying 4831sc as well. H414 and RL17 will also need to be tried in the process to see what happens. It's difficult to set up my chrony this time of year, so most testing will be for accuracy more than velocity.

Is this rifle being built as a "hump" around the mountains piece or more for spot from a 4-wheeler/truck setup? What is it supposed to weigh when finished?

I stopped by a Gander Mountain today (closest store that I know carries some reloading stuff) to pick up a 30 cal pilot to trim cases. Didn't have one in 30 cal  so I can't trim cases tonight. Just another reason to stay away from GM.

257 Ackley, I hunt alot of roadless country here being with the old 2/4 under Col "Bull" Fisher I learned how to walk/run everywhere and you think a 67 I know better.

I like my deer/elk rifle 8.5 to maybe alittle over 9lbs thats a good carry weight for me.

I always try and find acouple loads that print the same never know when something going to be changed/discontinued. I hunted for many years using Rem bulk bullets $50 buy 500 shot lots of elk/deer with 30 cal 165/180gr and I still use them in the 30-338mag,300Wby,300RUM. plus some other calibers.

Well good luck with your 300WSM may your groups always be small.
