Yeah, it's a pretty sweet custom rifle. I sure like it. One of you guys needs to pick this up, so we can see it propped up against a big ol' bull elk this fall...

Beautiful rifle Guy!

I think it's about maxed out price wise, but we'll see on the last day. Far more than I'd pay for the rifle even as good as the wood is on it. I've bought my share of used custom rifles and they are always someone's idea of the perfect rifle, usually not mine. So that means I'll have to do some work to it to make it something I would really enjoy. I already have two .338-06 rifles don't see a need to add an AI, especially since I don't see dies being offered with it. So I'd probably re-barrel to something else, like I would have done with the other custom Pre-64 Win in .280 I had if I hadn't made a young man one hell of a deal on it.

Yes, it's disturbingly close to my "perfect rifle" requirements... Sigh...

But I'm abstaining from the bidding. Will be interesting to see what it goes for. You're right, a lot of custom guns, even from big-name makers, go for a fraction of what the original owner paid the custom riflesmith.

I still shake my head in wonder at the terrific custom Model 70 .375 I bought, for less than the same shop wanted for a brand new standard Win Model 70 in .375 H&H rifle.

Guy don't complain. I paid $600 for a M77 V/T in 22-250 that included a $400 Nikon scope I shot and knew I wouldnt be making any money on that rifle just spending lots of time at the bench!

Yeah, my first custom .338-06 I bought second hand, needs to be sold or re-bored into something else. I like it but it never was my ideal .338-06 I just bought it because it was cheaper than building one. Then I went and finally built the one I wanted two years ago.

I am saving my lunch money for that one when you get tired of it.....

Not me certainly but it is a pretty rifle. It seems to have attracted it's due in attention.

Yup, day and a half left and just over a thousand dollars.

It's a nice rifle. I won't be surprised to see the price scoot up some more in the next 36 hours.

Guy

$1375.00 now...

There's still time to bid. I think the price has finally come up to reflect the rifle's true value.

Guy

So does it have your name on it and are you going to try a last minuet steal from some unsuspecting buyer?
Walk into the shop and offer them $1400 to pull it from the bidding.

Ha. No, I like it... But I'm not buying it.

Three and a half hours left...

That appears to be a pretty good piece of French walnut in that stock. Plus the workmanship by whoever made that stock makes it a $1000+ piece of furniture, especially if the stock was made by Ackley himself. I guess that I am mostly surprised that the seller did not promote this stock more when he put it up for sale?

Nobody bothers to mention that this is a Pre-64 Model 70 action that this rifle is made from? I could easily see someone paying $1500+ for this rifle?

My French walnut stocked Super Grade, Model 70 (1949) .270 Winchester has over $2000. invested in the rifle the wood and the stockmaker! That price of investment was in 1973 dollars as well!
