Yeah, this seems like a good plan really. Ballistically, it is right where I want to be. A new barrel would be very nice as well. I wouldn't mind getting rid of the BOSS either to be honest. I am not sure about what to do about barrels right now, but that is where my mind is wandering.

Bummer. I've taken a pretty serious disliking to Hornady dies... at least the New Dimension dies. Maybe the Match Grade will piss me off less.

Forsters would be the ultimate, Reddings just a small step down. I'd rather have RCBS dies than Hornady.
 
Probably like a .340 Bee with a Lapua's ballistics using 10-15 grains less powder. It kinda sounds like it will be in that realm.
 
nice, always good to see someone building something you cant buy off the shelf. scotty if you do find someone to chamber your old barrel do it and form all of your brass in it. you should be able to go from the 375 to the 338 in one shot in the full length die "case lube will be important here" you wont need a form die because your not changing the shoulder or the neck just reducing the neck diameter, you may have to turn the necks depending on the reamer and what your neck mics out at. you should get a print with the reamer if you dont ask for one. dave tooley from tooley custom rifles has built these and sells reamers and dies for it i would call him and for any questions regarding the forming proccess, what reamer to use and load data. tooley custom rifles 1-704-864-7525
 
Thanks Jeff. That is actually alot of help buddy. I am going to be relying on you all as I move forward for this. I like the 375 ruger case. Seems like about the right capacity for the larger bullet without getting into the big RUM style cases. I know it isn't much, but I do like the 2.5" case as well..

nice, always good to see someone building something you cant buy off the shelf. scotty if you do find someone to chamber your old barrel do it and form all of your brass in it. you should be able to go from the 375 to the 338 in one shot in the full length die "case lube will be important here" you wont need a form die because your not changing the shoulder or the neck just reducing the neck diameter, you may have to turn the necks depending on the reamer and what your neck mics out at. you should get a print with the reamer if you dont ask for one. dave tooley from tooley custom rifles has built these and sells reamers and dies for it i would call him and for any questions regarding the forming proccess, what reamer to use and load data. tooley custom rifles 1-704-864-7525

I honestly think it would be a good one. Especially for our M70's. Should require any real work to be done to the gun other than a rebarrel, rechamber, true it up and it should be good go? I think Brian is making some calls right now. I would be a happy camper shooting 250's at 2850-2900.. I think the recoil might be manageable enough to not knock the tar out of me and it should be accurate...
 
If you plan on rechambering you better make sure the reamer has the same or larger neck diameter. If it doesn't you'll have a stepped neck if the barrel isn't set back. The Ruger case is 2.58" and the .338 Win. is 2.50". So if the neck of the reamer is under the factory size it will step down .080" early. The safest bet is to set it back 2-3 turns so it will clean the whole chamber up.

The .375 Ruger, 8mm Mag, and .300 Weatherby are all about equal case capacity. The difference in velocity can be a certain barrel as much as it is case capacity difference. My .338 Baer's (a blown out 8mm case) does 2900-2950 with 250's.
 
Scotty now this is just silly me talking here, but I would toss that boss in the garbage and get you a real barrel or maybe a smith could make something to screw onto it that is thin and matches the color and contour of the barrel. I just don't care for them. I think you guys got a great idea brewing though on the chambering. It should be a dandy. This coming from mister small caliber himself! :p
