Been working with some 225 ABs out of the 338 Edge. Didn't have any luck with Mag Pro, so I switched to RL-25. Loaded up three rounds with 101, and three rounds with 102. First outing the first two shots of 101 gr went same hole. Third opened it up to over an inch and I saw some gas leak around the primmer. I noticed some of the primers seated really easy when I loaded them so that case got tossed after firing. 102 gr. shot 2 in one out, but it was about 2.5".

So I loaded up a three more 101gr and shortened the seating depth .010" of an inch. Shot about 2". So I loaded up five with the 101 gr to the same length of the first test and headed to the range today. Shots 1 and 2 went same hole pretty much. Shot 3 opened it up to .407". I was really happy! I shot the fourth shot and it cut the first two shots! The last shot cut the third shot.

Shots 1,2,4 went .260"
Shots 1,2,3, went .407"
All five went .694"

Didn't get a chance to chrony them yet, as the wind keeps blowing my chrony over. These were shot in a 10-12 mph crosswind. The way they are shooting I really don't care how fast they are going. I'll get some speeds so I can build a drop chart and start playing with it farther out. I should be getting my Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50 for it next week.

Looks awesome Jake! I imagine no elk will be safe on your side of OR! Man, that is a true elk hammer. Pretty excited to see how it shoots on the long range! Scotty

You and me both! I have a lot of practice to do before I start shooting at game as far as that gun can shoot. For now I figure in the right conditions I could poke 600 with out to much trouble. Been shooting my .243 with the 107 NCC a bunch practicing for the day I get the edge all set up. Out to 600 I can ring the gong every time first shot. I don't have anything between 600 and 1000 yet so thats why the 600 limit. If I get the wind right I have no trouble hitting the 1K gong with the .243. If its not blowing I can get it first shot. The most cross wind I have practiced in was 12 mph. That will blow a 107 .243 cal bullet a long ways!

Jake,

That looks a lot like bear in your freezer. Good show.

Jake,

Outstanding! Way to go buddy. I agree with Mike on a bear in the freezer and will add anything else in NA.
You are good to go.

That is spectacular shooting! What's the recoil like on that thing? Largest rifle I have is a 30-06 and I'm starting to feel some envy!

Recoil is surely no worse than your 30-06. The rifle weighs 11 lbs, and has a break. I'm sure recoil get more serious when a guy shoots the 300 gr. Match King. I shot it prone this afternoon at my 300 gong. Not something a guy wants to rip 30 rounds off at one sitting, but not bad enough that its not pleasant.

Incredible shooting. Watch out Blue Mountain bears...

Looking forward to seeing some pictures and hearing the story! Good luck.

Nice Jake. Glad those 225s are working out of that for ya. I know you really wanted it to shoot them ABs lol. Not to much trouble, pretty effortless really, not bad for a remington huh? Haha.

I need to hurry up and get well so I can have the last couple weekends to go look for a bear with ya and get set up on one :)

just ordered a broughton 32" barrel, 5.5x22 NXS, a tube gun chasis, and a jewel for my edge build.

Congrats!
I ended up with 100 grs of reloader 25 in my 338 RUM with the 225 A/B for the velocity ( 3116 fps ) and accuracy I was after. It works good on elk and I imagine most anything.
Enjoy

Nice! Keep us updated on the build, please!

Nice, Jake. Pretty impressive to shoot those groups in wind stiff enough to blow you chrony over!

Thanks fellas.

Greg I would have thought that you would get more fps out of it at that charge :?: I believe the nosler book shows a max of 98 gr RL-25 doing over 3200 fps. I'll get some of these ran across the chrony this week and see what I'm getting. I have been using 3300 fps on my balistic calc. and it is dead on out to 600, but that is all the farther I have tested it so far.

RR this rig might be getting a new trigger as well. The one that is on it is a tuned factory, but I have noticed that it has a bit travel before it goes off sometimes. I wouldn't call it creep, more of a jump. I can hear it click a bit when it moves then I apply more pull and it goes off. I don't like that at all.

BK I tried to wait for the wind to die down between shots. It was fairly gusty. I'll have to get a pic of my range someday, there are about 16 two megawatt wind turbines behind my benches.

That rifle is going to kick the poo out of any bear! Great shooting again Jake. Looking forward to hearing how you do on them. Scotty
