I joined this group several months ago looking for help getting all I could out of this wildcat. I have been reloading for over forty years but now recognize my efforts had been relatively pedestrian. The assistance I received directly or indirectly has just been fantastic.
I've been getting groups in the .45+- range with the 250 grain Partition, working with a variety of powders and OAL from 3.60 to 3.67. 3.67 being the longest cartridge to fit the magazine.
My greatest frustration of late had been the routine uncalled flyer. The flyer occurred with every group. Some one recently suggested dropping back 5/1000. Never thought about that.
Here's the recipe; 375 HH fire formed and necked down to .338.
84 grains 7828 ssc.
250 grain Partition
COL 3.595
Velocity 2925 (only three rounds fired over chronograph.)
Results: three nearly perfect looking five shot groups measuring .412 to 456. No flyers and no called shots.

Now for the AccuBond and maybe replace the 30 year old wood stock.
Thanks for the help
Don

Yeah I got to figure that part out. I'm challenged by anything other than a flip phone. I did save my best looking target, so next time I'm babysitting the grand kids maybe they can get me dialed in.

That is the same load I shoot with my 338 Baer but using 250gr Sierra's. The are almost identical for capacity though. 83grs of R-22 and 88grs of H-1000 shot a little better in my gun then 7828. I don't know what kind of neck tension your running but that is another area for better accuracy and lower ES if you haven't played with it yet.

That is nearly identical also to what I'm getting out of my 338/375Ruger. Using 84 gr 7828ssc with the 225 AB getting 3030 FPS, and 81.5 gr with a 250 Berger VLD (NOSLER, HURRY UP WITH A .338 ABLR) getting 2875. Yours how ever is shooting way better than mine. Sending it back to the doctor to get it checked out.

Sounds like you have one heck of a shooter!

It will shoot but I've been plagued by flyers. I think I may have gotten that figured out.
I am thinking that 338/375 Ruger would be a great cartridge. How long a barrel are you using?
Hopefully you have it all worked out by fall. I get down along the Umitilla quite a bit in the fall. I'll get in touch when I get back from Alaska in September, I'd like to see it.

I'm running a 26" Benchmark tube on it. I can get two out of the three in or dang near in the same hole with a pile of loads, but it seem to through one out a lot. I plan on having it worked out by this fall for sure. I want some big game blood on it this year. It's a bit over kill for yotes and badgers. I'm going to send my vortex scope back to get it check out as well. That way when I get started over everything has a clean bill of health.

Let, me know when you get down this way. I have built quite a range on our place, we can stretch things out about as far as you want. I'm about 15 minutes south from Umatilla.

Very nice. Those big 338's are just about as perfect as it comes for elk in the West. Might not be entirely needed but they do smack with authority!

Those are some awesome loads.

I built it to hunt elk, it started life as an 8mm Remington mag. But I wanted a better selection of bullets. I also worked about 600 hours of overtime that year, so I had a little extra in my pocket. I know there are other 338 in our elk AO but I've never fired a shot that didn't result in the guys calling me immediately on the radio. Apparently she has a distinctive boom.
I'm sending the bragging photo to FOTTIS today if the kids can't teach me how to post them:)

here we go

Handsome rifle whose beauty is enhanced by a great group. Congratulations.

Wow! Very nice! That rifle looks really darned nice and what a shooter!

Great shooting rifle Don! I'm using 83gr of 7828ssc with the 250 SMKs and 86gr with the 225 AB in the 338-375 Ruger.

Six shots at 100 yards with the 250s

Outstanding, l keep seeing more and more reason to like 7828. Very good shooting Woody.

Thanks Don. I've had great results with 7828ssc in the 338-375 Ruger. Used it in the 300 RUM with 180gr SSTs at one time. Been one of the few powders i could find in the stores at any the time in the past few years. Thought about trying some H1000 in the 338 but, can't bring myself to keep tinkering with it.

225 AB at 100 yards

225 AB at 300 yards

That is some fine riflery, Brian. Qualifies as bragging quality, I'd say.

All I can say is WOW on both accounts. Don the 338 Jarrett looks as good as she shoots. Woody those are some very impressive groups, I wouldn't bother with other powders either.
