.338 Win Mag appears to be a shooter.

Scott,

If you have the option, take 2 rifles on your trip. Always a good to have your own back up rifle! The 338 Win would work just fine for long range speed goats, just ask Pop.

Here is an example of a high BC bullet at work, 338 RUM with a 250 gr AB at 2950 fps MV.
Dropped this lil' buck in his tracks. This is the exit wound.

The only reason to take two rifles on a trip is you don't have room for three!

I generally prefer relatively heavey bullets in anything I shoot at game. But with a .338, I would just shoot whatever shoots best out of the rifle.

That picture is probably selling alot of 338 Caliber rifles. Everytime I see it I am motivated to slay some deer. Hopefully Nosler has some seconds for the 225's or 250's soon. I cannot wait to start shooting my 338. Scotty

Just saw this thread, and thought I would add to it.

My .338 WM is a Sako M995. It shoots 1/2 in. groups all day long.

Handloads are 210 gr. Partitions, RL 19, Federal brass, CCI mag. Primer. Getting right at 2950 fps, with that handload.

It gets out there and knocks elk flat.

That sounds like an excellent load for the 338. I will have to keep that in mind for when I start loading for mine. Scotty
