Has anyone tried the Hornady 185gr GMX in the 340? Was thinking of trying some this fall on moose. Maybe too light?

That weight bullet would be smokin' from your 340 Wby.

skidmark,

I knew you would say that ;)
Ok,I will take your advice. Do you still have one?

I have to agree that the 250 gr is where its at.

Yes Sir.. The only gun I wont give up is my .340 Accumark.
If you want I can give you load data that has worked for me
but you would be advised to still work up each load. Max charges
had weatherby speed however lower velocities always gave sub MOA results
If 2850 seems slow launch a few 250s and smile. Skid

That brake will save your eye the day your pulled up
tight on the stock. My leupold has almost 4" relief
and I am very aware of the rear lens on every shot.
I wonder how loud it is braked ? Also get them Talleys.
And some 250 Accubonds...and heaven forbid get some Sierra
250 SGK's. they shoot ragged holes.

skidmark,

Can you give me some load data to help me get started? I am going to try some 225gr TTSX and look out for some Accubonds. How did you find the SGK on game?

88.0 grains of IMR 7828 SSC and a 215 MM primer in Weatherby or Norma brass. This will push the 225 grain bullet at about 3080 fps.

Boomer, very cool rifle! Love the 340 Weatherby.

I can't wait to see some load work from the rifle. Seems like the Accumarks have always turned in some great accuracy.

Got some 225 TTSX on the way....will post my results. Looking forward as it's been a few years since I last shot a 340.
Going to try and pick up some 250's as well. Got 7lbs of 7828 ready ;)

Yeah, and about anyone could grow fond of such fondness, Bill. Fine example of good riflery and a great load. That would put the smack down on about any game in NA.

Thanks Mike. Oh it most certainly would indeed put the smack on critters. Yes that 340 would shoot, like many other rifles I'm not sure why I sold it.

That is so true for many of us. We look back longingly to rifles that we loved which somehow slipped from our grasp.

Bill,

Nice shooting buddy. Adjust the windage 1.5" west and you are ready to go kill elk.

Jim that is exactly what I would do if I still owned it.

All this 340 stuff made me load a few
for Sunday afternoon... I hope the Non Magnum
people are at the club range. I love it when they ask
what the heck is that ?
