I went to the range today and shot the 338 win, 338 rum, and 35 whelen. I was shooting factory ammo out of the 338 win, and 35 whelen, I chronographed them just to see where they stack up with advertized velocities.

The 35 whelen was Double tap 250 gr. It went through the trap at 2587 ave. Remington 700 classic 22 in barrel. Double tap advertizes 2600 fps so it is pretty close.

The 338 win was Federal supreme 250 gr. Nosler partitions. It went threw at 2670 ave. out of a ruger 77 with a 24 in barrel. Federal advertizes 2660 fps so once again it was almost right on.
Both loads shot right at about 1 inch at 100 yards.

Not a lot of difference between them, the Double Tap ammo seems like really good stuff. I guess you like 338's and 35's you are in good company here :)

That is real good consistency from factory ammo. If you are going to reload, it could be even better. I just feel more confident with my own loaded ammo because I know the effort that I put into the process  but that might be just me.

I agree but so much more satisfying to do it yourself and then you have one less varible to worry about. Especially when you know the rifle, scope, and ammo are always right it leaves one left and the most purplexing the nut behind the trigger!!

Man, that is some good stuff right there. Always good to have a back up factory load for the rifles. Hard to tell much difference between those two.

Factory ammo has become very consistent in this day, and much of it is quite accurate. It is difficult to beat factory velocities in many instances.
