I just had my Sako rechambered to 358 Norma Mag, thanks to Scotty and some Quick Load data I was able to make up some loads this morning and head out to my favorite clear cut to do some shooting. I shot my last few 225 gr Accubonds and some 250 gr Speer's with Big Game, the 225's were just above 35 Whelen speeds but the 250's were solidly into what you would expect a 358 Norma to be.

Sako L691 action
Brown Precision stock
Canadian made stainless King barrel 1 in 12 twist 22 " long
Burris 2-7x35 scope (which was still sighted in after getting rechambered :) )

There is more room to go up with both bullets I would bet, I would like to see closer to 2900 fps with the 225's with 250's around 2750 fps is fine with me even though more is possible probably.

By the way the 35 Whelen will always be my favorite and I have zero plans to ever get rid of it :) if I could only own one gun my Remington would be the one.

Not the best picture but here it is

Yeah, I'd say that's dropping them in there quite nicely. Excellent results, Gerry. Congratulations on a quality rifle.

NIce looking setup and it looks like it is a shooter. And, the bolt is on the correct side......

Very nice Gerry! That rifle is ultra cool! Man, I love these big 358's. What a bunch of power and bullet mass. Gotta think it's that combo that would be really useful in your neck of the woods. I like your rifle a lot. I'm hoping you can get into some animals this Fall!

Big Game does look really good. Seems like shortening the seating depth a little would have some bug holes pretty quick. That King barrel seems really good to me. Congrats on such a cool rifle! Very happy for you.

Congrats Gerry!..Looking real good pal :) ..lots of fire power, I like it 8)

...fine looking "shooter" ya got there, too bad they built it azzbackwards...

Thanks, it my version of your fine Bavarian 375 H&H

Gene I know, Dan should at least find it appealing being a lefty and all.........

I should also mention I do have a bit of a bruise which is the price you pay for going 17 rounds prone with a 358 Norma

Nah, you well get use to it pal, I just love shooting my .375 H&H, I would imagine the recoil of your .358 Norma would be similar :?: ..Any how, good shooting Gerry! :)

Gerry,

Nice groups and nice rifle!

Gotta love those King barrels. I have 5 of them in various calibers built on left handed actions, and they shoot better than MOA...most being 1/2 MOA when I do my part! (250 AI, 300 WSM, 338-06, 376 Steyr and 416 Taylor - which I still have to shoot)

He won't be making barrels much longer as he is selling his business (after semi-retiring from gunsmithing for the past 5 or so years), I should get an order in for another barrel, or two, before he is completely done.

That would be a good idea for you to get another one if you have a chance. When I got this barrel probably 12 years ago they were 2/3 rds the cost of other custom barrels but it was a shooter from the beginning and a great bargain. I would have liked to have gotten another one for the 270 Wby project but that wasn't possible so am having Gary Eakin bring in a Benchmark for me instead. I hope the fellow he is selling to will be able to continue to make some good Canadian barrels for us.

And yes it looks like it won't be hard to get it to shoot bug holes as a 358 Norma, 3 of the groups are hovering around moa already. Going to try the 275 gr Barnes originals and Woodleighs next along with the few 225 gr Partition and TSX bullets I have left. The 200 gr TTSX is an interesting option as well.........

Hey gerry - shes a good looker and shooter ! 35 Whelen's big Brother ! hey ! LOL

Cheers :) RJ

I know you're pulling my leg, Scotty. The headstamp read "375 Ruger." Must have made a mistake. Ah, I guess envy won't change anything. That is a neat round; I will sure be excited when it draws blood this fall.

gerry, don't worry my left handed Buddy I have got your back . The 325 looks to be a great looking lady and she will pack a wallop as well !!!
PS. I should mention when I cover your back, because of my age it might be a block back however !

Blessings,
Dan
