.358 Sierra Game King 225

Just wanted to post some results from this blacktail season using this bullet. My hand loaded 225 SGK out of my ruger Hawkeye in .358 Winchester is pushing about 2600fps at the muzzle. I shot my buck strongly quartering to me at about 100 yards. I hit him in the front shoulder and the bullet traveled the length of the deer and stopped under the hide on the opposite side of rear hind quarter after going through the hip. When I found the bullet there and in tact I was very impressed. Sorry I didn’t take pictures of the internal damage but it wasn’t really explosive. Just plowed a nice hole clean through and crushed the buck in his tracks. Very impressed with the performance of this bullet. I have now taken two bucks and a black bear with this bullet and this is the only one I have managed to catch. I’m starting to think it’s an elk bullet!

Sounds like it might work OK. I use the 225 gr. TSX in my .35 Whelen at 2710 FPS MV and it'll pass through an elk from exhaust pipe to appetite. I thought I'd try it in one of my .358s but I have to seat it too deeply for it to fit on their magazines. Bummer. Once I went to the Whelen the .358s stayed home. Guess I should do something about that.

Yeah I have a bad feeling that’s what’ll happen when I buy a whelen. So I’ll probably just stick to my 358 for a few more seasons at least. It’s an incredible little cartridge. That’s a bummer you can’t use the 225 tsx but I’m sure the 200 wouldn’t be much less effective if any at all. I have a bunch of the 200 ttsx I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. Something about the lead cup and cores that just have a hold of me still.

I have the same exact set up except for tube diameter myself. I shoot the little brother 338 Fed in Ruger Hawkeye. I had about the same distance shot, bullet recovery offside ham as well going through about 25" of buck with a 180 AccuBond. Nice shooting rig!

That’s a great setup! I have the twin to my 358 in 338 fed also. Both ruger hawkeyes ss. Hands down my two favorite rifles. I have some 180 accubonds maybe I will try them on a buck one of these days. How fast are you pushing that 180 out of the federal?

I used the 200 grain TSX to good effect in my BLR chambered in 358 Win.
