3k fps w/ 168 NBTs through good ole Spingfield!

EFW, I know where the need for speed comes from and sometimes you just need to scratch the itch. You are intelligent enough to note the pressure signs and back off. We have all done the same thing. At least I have. Seems like 2900 with the 165 is a pretty sweet load for a 30-35 Whelen.. Scotty

don't know how fair a comparison that is between the BST & NBT because of the coating on the former

Quickload doesn't know anything about the coatings people apply to bullets. It just uses the bullet size and volume to make calcualations. So the comparison is the same between the two. BUT, of course it is just a computer projection. There are lots of variables between the gun, amount of freebore and different lots of powder. BUt I ran the forecast to show that you are treading in hot waters most likely with that load. To be honest I figured it was going to show a tad more pressure.
Also keep in mind that for hunting purposes running near max can also add to problems Many years ago I was in Alaska with a wby I ran at max loads. Never a problem shooting it on the range. But after being in 3 days straight of rain moisture had gotten into my barrel. When I took my first shot it darn near locked the bolt up. I didn't need more shots and it wasn't a dangerous deal but it was a lesson learned.

The ballistic silvertip is produced with Winchester's lubalux coating; it is not something added after the fact.

You are correct, other than that it is an identical bullet.

You're absolutely correct about the ill effects of excessive pressure. I'm not planning on running this load again, intimations in the initial post not withstanding.

Winchester (and Nosler) claim that the Lubalox coating on the Ballistic Silvertip is an oxide (apparently nickel based) and is supposed to reduce chamber pressure and make bullets more "slippery" when using Lubalox. I have been shooting the BTST in my .270, .280 and .30-06 since the bullets first came on the market back in the 1990's. I have never had any issue with pressure ar with Lubalox buildup for that matter. My barrels clean up the same with these Silvertips as they do with any other BT-Nosler bullet.

There has been a lot of misdirected confusion about Lubalox in the ensuing years since it was released to market about it being a molybdenum coating and fouling barrels but it isn't and it doesn't.

Same here Charlie. Shot a bunch of the Winchester Supreme 140gr AB's with the Lubalox and they shot like they were on fire. One of the best shooting loads I have ever came across. No issues with barrel fouling at all. Scotty

Scotty, I use them for accuracy loads in these rifles which I normally shoot Partitions in for hunting because these CT Silvertip bullets are very reasonable and are extremely accurate, as you have found.
