40 grain 3800 fps+ 223 Ackley Improved

Anyone here shoots the 40 grainer on 223 Ackley Improved? What powder do you use to get to 3800+ fps without much sweat. I'm up to 3600 with 29.3 grain of BLC-2 and still grouping quarter inch. 30 grain will probably push me over the top. If not I'll switch to H-335. Any input will be much appreciated.

What does benchmark look like with that bullet?

DF, My 223AI has a 1/14 twist barrel 27" long. I would start with
28gr/H-335 and work up in my rifle I can get to 3900fps plus with 40gr bullets.

I settled on 50gr bullets in my 223AI (3700fps) with H-335 and I've also had good luck with N-133/8208 with 50/52gr bullets. I shoot a 1/12 twist barrel in a 222AI/22-250AI. Good luck

I'm at 3,750 plus fps with my .223 Remington shooting the 40gr Ballistic Tip in front of Reloader 10X. Don't know much about the AI version....


Sorry all, I looked at the wrong info in my notes....I am actually getting them going about 3,500+- FPS.
