Stopped by my local gun shop today. They had found the hunter who had stuck this bull a couple of years ago. Reportedly got two arrows in him but after days of searching could not locate him. He knew he hit him back a little. Two years ago forest workers found the dead head. The LGS got him mounted for posterity to show what’s possible. The damn thing was found just a few miles from the house.

The winter ground is mostly private, tough access. But where I can get access I look pretty hard but no luck on big bulls. Found some decent mule deer sheds though. My view from the kitchen. The winter range runs from the elevation 3000 ft. up slope about 1/2 way Up. If you were to look at a map of NE Oregon you would see the same geographic feature from Lagrande to the snake, north to Joseph, east to Elgin and back to Lagrande. 100s of miles of outstanding elk habitat. Inside that circle is the largest wilderness area in Oregon. Part of it is the Minam country the RMEF worked so hard to obtain.
