Headed out to the range this morning, had several officers signed up to come out and shoot. Paused to take this photo, sunrise on the Columbia River:

Got to the range, a bit chilly this morning. A couple of officers came out and qualified with their .40's & .45's, then there was a lull in business, so I hauled out a couple of my toys. Sadly the .30-30 decided to stop extracting shells from the chamber after a few rounds. I'll need to address that issue. Single shots are great - but I'd really like for this rifle to continue life as a repeater!

The .44 revolver however was working great. Loaded it up with 240 grain factory ammo (PMC in this case) and fired our qualification course. The only parts of the course that gave me any real trouble are a couple of portions where I have to shoot one-hand/weak-hand rapid fire with the pistol. That's a piece of cake with a .45 semi-auto, but a little tougher with the .44 revolver.

Not a perfect score/target, but not bad for a chilly morning and a .44 magnum, a 294/300:

Got several other shooters through the qual course, buttoned things up and headed for home and a warm nap.

Great post, Guy. Man, that picture of sunrise on the Columbia is gorgeous. Sunrise in the west is always a joy. Not a bad group on the .44, either.

Just got a new wallpaper....beautiful. God is great, and shooting with friends. Simple joys in life. Thanks CL

Nice shooting with the S&W 629 44 Mag.
Sounds like you are going to have to replace the extractor on the Marlin, simple fix.

Beautiful sun rise!

Great pictures Guy! I need to try our qual course with my 44, but the speed reloads might be a little tough with the SBH! Might be fun to try though! Scotty

Yeah, the speedloaders take some work. I'm still not very smooth with them. It's fun trying though.

We had a Reserve Officer who was tremendously competent with his .357 S&W 686 & speed loaders. The guy shot great, then he'd reload his revolver as fast as I can reload my 1911 - it was something to see. One of these days I'd like to get the S&W 625 in .45 ACP with the full moon clips. I've heard that thing reloads fast as greased lightning!

That would be pretty cool. Takes some dedication and practice to make a revolver fast as a 1911 I imagine. Scotty

Sure gives a guy a bad case of 629itis.... Too many irons in the fire.. Will admit I perused the used rack last night and saw a nice 6", but the 829$ depressed me.

Beautiful pic too Guy!! You do have an eye for the lense as many of your past pics well show.

Thaks for sharing
