44 Rem Mag Mid Range Loads

I don't have a 44 but had a 41 Magnum, I used H110 mainly and the 210 XTP, and boy that powder does move em fast. H110 should work like a charm for the 44 Magnum. Powder does burn a little dirty.

H110 is my go to powder for the 44 Rem Mag for full power loads. I'm working on a mid power load with hard cast bullets. Getting 1000-1100 fps is just about perfect in a 3" barrel for woods carry.

So here's what I have ended up with for a mid range load in my S&W 629-3 3" revolver.
240 gr SWC hard cast coated from Bauyou Bullets
10.0 grs Unique
CCI 350 Large Magnum Primer
R-P brass
Velocity is 1040 fps with an ES of 26.1 and SD of 8.1 from a 3 " barrel. Consistently hitting the 58 yard 10" gong, groups are 4-5". I will work on improving my accuracy.
I am also taking a close look at VZ Grips.

Alliant hasn’t been very helpful on keeping up the supply. For now I’ll see what HS-6 will do for me.

For mid range loads in my .44 Mags I like 10.0 gr. of Unique and a 240-250 gr. cast SWC. Serious bear or mountain lion defense loads are 22.0 gr. A2400 with 240-250 gr. SWC or W296/H110 with the same bullets.
One of the reasons Alliant powders are so hard to find is because they ain't makin' any and won't be making any for only God knows how far out in time. Their excuse is they can't get any nitrocellulose which it the main ingredient for all smokeless powders. Funny thing is most if not all their rifle powders are made in foreign countries. From what I understand, most nitrocellulose comes from Russia these days and Russia will not sell any yo NATO counties and their affiliates. Guess that's what happens when corporate greed goes overseas to save on labor costs. Not sure on whether or not St. Marks is producing their own nitrocellulose for use in Winchester's ball powders but that's the reason for much of the powder shortages we're seeing today.

When I was shoot a .44 Mag I would look at the .44Spl loads and select one of the milder loads and give a few a try then I would teak it to my preference.
Had an original Ruger flat top that thought it was a sniper rifle but sold it to buy a compound bow, boy was that a dumb move and one I still regret.
I also have had 2 M29's and a Dan Wesson. The Dan Wesson barrel was junk, the pistol was ok but made from spare parts just before DW went belly up, that one I don't regret passing on.
