I was able to pick up my new to me 444s Marlin. It is an older rifle with the micro groove barrel. The metal is nice and clean with the normal few scratches and a few small spots of rust but the wood needs a little help. I would like to remove the wood and refinish it this winter but if that happens it happens. I need to remove the front sight hood, move the hammer extension to the right side (I removed the set screw and the extension will not slide off) and give it a deep cleaning. Other than that, I need to keep my eyes open for brass and other supplies. I would like to get a bigger lever loop in the future and maybe do something with the recoil pad. Until then, I hope to get it dialed in and ready to hunt.

Nice. The Nosler 300 gr JHP is a great bullet for the 444.

Get some H335! Group with 56.5 gr with 300 Sierra 2150 fps

Same load with 300 gr cast Beartooth

Now I am playing with shot loads and lead balls! Quite versatile.

I do have some H335. Just need to get her ready to shoot this spring. Just looked up the date of manufacture and it says 1977 with a 1:38 twist barrel. I hope that will be able to shoot the 265-300 grain bullets.

Cool looking loads Fotis....

Congrats on a great looking gun WT it should be a lot of fun working with it :)

The whole slow twist thing is overplayed. I've shot everything from 200-405 grain bullets in mine. All of them have had acceptable accuracy. Most of the quicker rifle powders work really well too. RL7 and H4198 along with H335 and AA5744 have been the most accurate in my rifle.

Congrats on the 444! I've had good results with H335 and H4198 with the 265 gr Hornady and setted on H4198.

That's a great looking rifle. Chances are any of the decent powders along with a 240-300 grain bullet will shoot well. Mine shoots about like Fotis's and I really didn't have to work too hard to make it do so.

Great looking rifle.
If it shoots like Fotis' rifle you've got a keeper.

Thanks for sharing. I have always had a "Crush" on Marlins own .444. It´s like the Model 336 and the .444cal were made for a perfect marriage together.
