444 Marlin bullet test

The 265 in that 444 is my favorite hands down!

I am a big fan of the Hornady 265, it was designed for the 444 and it just works perfectly in it. That said, Marshall's 335 grain WFNGC and 310 grain LFNGC are more accurate in my gun, but its a Marlin that slugs at .4325" and the better fitting bullet is important.

The 265gr interlock sitting on top of 42gr of IMR-4198 is the goods out of my 444P guide gun.

My choice of powder also!

That's a little light, IMO. I've been loading the 265 hornady quite some time with 47g of IMR 4198. My guess is that velocity should be near or at 2300. How Hornady gets 2400fps, I am not sure...I have shot deer with it, and it's kills them quite dead, if not a little too aggressive, especially at closer ranges. I hit one doe at 40 yards, quartering slightly away uphill. It blew out the top third of the humorous with blood and bone spray 10' beyond the deer. It was the first deer I shot, so I had no idea what the results would be. At further ranges, it's tempered a bit, but still only requires one shot in the boiler.
