Been shooting 140 Berger Hybrids in the 6.5 Creed for a few years already, just tired of the same bullet shooting bugholes and wanted to shoot hunting bullets for a change. I still have 8 lbs of that IMR 4451 that I bought several years ago as an alternative to H4350 which I could not find. I have 2 jugs of H4350 to keep for later use. Ten boxes of 140 Ballistic Tips has been sitting on the shelf for years already and dusted them off and i wet tumbled some old brass that was possibly fired 10X, but lost count. Prepped some brass and ran a ladder for the 140 Hybrids and IMR 4451 from 39.5 grains to 42 grains in .5 increments and three round charges for the 140 Ballistic Tips from 39.5 to 41.5 grains in .5 increments. Winds was real bad from 20-25 mph variable from right to left. Tested @ 100 yards.
140 Hybrids - IMR4451 / 1 bullet per charge / .040" off the lands ( just testing velocity, possible node between 41.5 -42.0 )
39.5 - 2679 fps
40.0 - 2699 fps
40.5 - 2746 fps
41.0 - 2781 fps
41.5 - 2822 fps
42.0 - 2842 fps
140 Ballistic Tips / IMR 4451/ .010" off the lands
39.5 - 2670, 2688, 2679
40.0 - 2713, 2699, 2713
40.5 - 2747, 2754, 2741
41.0 - 2782, 2757, 2772
41.5 - 2803, 2807, 2806
41.5 grains / 140 Ball Tips seems to get the nod at 2800 fps average and speed is nice. No pressure seen on the brass. Tinkered with Quickload, max pressure is 63K at 2830 fps / 42 grains, this load is at 61K at 2800 fps / 41.5 grains. Will redo this 41.5 grain load again soon. Should be a killer deer load.
