What are your favorite loads for the 6.5 Creedmoor?

JD338

Tagging. Still working on my load but have seen promise with 140 ballistic tips and 41.5 gr. h4350 and 130 AB with 41.7 gr. RL17

Not a handload, but the 6.5CM Nosler Trophy Grade 129ABLR ammo worked really well in the GF's Savage Axis II rifle. She took a nice cow elk at 300 yards with it this fall.

Impressive! (y)

I used H4350 with the 140 Hybrids for target shooting. 42.4 grains H4350, Fed210M, Nosler brass and I am going to work up a hunting load soon for the first time with the ELD-X 143 grain and the 140 Nosler Ballistic Tips. I have never shot game yet with the 6.5 Creedmoor.

I really like 44.7g of Superformance and the 143 ELD-X...I get 2600fps out of an 18" barrel and results are generally 1/2" if I skip my third cup of coffee.

I also like 41.5g H4350 behind the 130 Nosler AB and the 143 ELD-X. H4350 is slower than SuperP...but ES numbers are usually in the single digits!

Everything is lit with a Fed 210 primer in a Hornady case.

One of the things I really like about the 6.5 in general and my rifle in particular is that finding exceptional loads seems to be easy to do. It doesn't matter if it's factory or a hand load- everything seems to shoot very good to great.

Mine likes enough IMR 4350 to get 2800fps and 140gr Nosler CC and Partition. Point of impact is virtually the same to 600 yards with both bullets.

That's interesting, and useful!

Is the Partition producing good accuracy? I've found they usually do.

Hey Guy,

I’ve papered them at 100 and found them to be just as accurate as the CC’s in my rifle, 5 shot groups MOA or a little better most of the time. I shoot a 10” gong at 600 and can hold shots in the center area of it with both bullet types. I’m by no means an accomplished LR shooter and I’ve never shot at a game animal out there.

I’ve read that the boat tail on the LR bullet doesn’t really come into play until it drops below supersonic. I’d like to stretch it out past 600 and see where the LR bullet starts to pay for my own first hand experience.

Seems most favor a heavier bullet. Is anyone shooting the 120bt or 125 pt? My son bought a 6.5 creedmore the other day and is gathering components to start loading it. I use the 120bt in my 6.5x55 and like its performance on deer. Dan.

I like the 120 BTs with RL17. Getting 3000 fps and excellent accuracy in both my creeds (Tikka CTR and Bergara HMR), load shoots extremely well in my buddies custom also. New hunting load is 125 bulldozer and imr 4350, can get them to 2840 and one hole accuracy.

Impressive Scotty!
What kind of velocity are you getting?

This group was fired from a Browning Hells Canyon LR rifle. The only modification was a trigger replacement. Rather impressive performance from a factory rifle.

The lead splatter was caused by me slapping a 2" gong which is suspended from the target frame.

Load info is on the target but here are the particulars: Berger 135gr Classic Hunter loaded .019" off the rifling. The 2,862-6 is the velocity followed by the SD. I use Lapua SRP brass and CCI 450 primers. The orange dot is 1.25" IIRC.

It is 2775 from my rifle Jim.

Charlie, that’s great shooting. Those Browning’s are darned good rifles. Looks like they are really building some great rifles these days.
