6.5 Creedmoor

I load a buddies 260 Rem with the 140 MK and H414. Great accuracy. Similar to yours. He doesn't shoot enough to really tell if it's as temp sensitive as I've heard it might.

What powder would be suggested for being able to push a 140 nosler Partition at least 2700 fps, with the smallest amount of powder used? Looking for a load with say 38-40 grains if possible.

Jockperkins, awesome shooting. Great rifle. Tony does work for me and I really like him. Thinking about a 6.5x47 or Creedmoor but not sure which way to go. Are you in Idaho? I'm in Boise.

frankm,

Tony is the bomb! He can be a little slow (he will hit me for saying this) but he is a stickler for the little things and he builds very accurate rifles. He has built several rifles for me and they are both tack drivers. Right now I have him building my son a 6.5 Creedmoor hunting rifle that I am giving him once he completes his Eagle Scout project. Here are some of the components:

Hitech stock
lilja 1:8 twist barrel (fluted)
blueprinted model 7 action
Holland Recoil lug

I hope it turns out as well as I think it can. If not I will know it has nothing to do with Tony. I thought about the 6.5 lapua because I like the brass so much but I have to tell you that I have 250 pieces of Hornady brass and I am very pleased with its consistency etc. No loose primer pockets with warmer loads etc as well.

I am out of Caldwell.

Jockperkins,
The build sounds perfect for your sons first rifle. I have a 7-08 Rem in 700 action in a Hi Tech stock that was originally mine and it ended up being given to my daughter for her first centerfire.

I am a member at Parma R&G and get over there and shoot steel, punch paper, etc. ocasionally so I'll "look for you" sometime if you make it that way. I've met one guy there, maybe it was you, that was working with a Creedmoor !

Frankm,

I have never been out that way but I will have to give it a shot. I love the 708 cartridge. I had one in a Rem titanium but could never get it to shoot. I think the barrel was bad. I kick myself for not having Tony throw a barrel on it. It could have been a darn nice rifle.

Let me know the next time you go out and maybe we could meet up. Nice to know there are local folks on the board...

How do you like the Hitech stock?

Jock

That little 6.5 is pretty impressive with a 140 Mike. 2800 with a bunch of powders. Might not have a ton of energy but man, those 140's should dig deep and really be slick. Hopefully the 6.5CM sticks around. I kinda like the looks of it more than the 260 Rem.

Jock,

H Tech stocks are hard to beat for a light, handy carry rifle. TYhey're a little "flexy" but as long as the barrel is floated with adequate clearance, which Tony will do, they're great. I have the short action that my daughter claims now and I also have one on my hunting rifle in 300WM. It does have some pretty good recoil due to the light weight but it's a shooter. 3/4" or better consistently with 165, 180 or 200 grain bullets and R22.

Bear in mind that the figures generated on that QL projection are only at 85% of pressure maximum. Thus, they will generate velocities that are quite a bit higher when properly loaded.

Man, that makes them look even better Mike. That is alot of bullet with a relatively small case. Now I kinda see why the 6.5CM and Lapua have such a following.. That is really getting it out there with a 140...

The Creedmoor is an efficient and well-mannered cartridge that will perform quite well for the one who treats her with respect.

It really sounds like it Mike. How are you making out with yours?

I need time to work on it again. I'm getting swamped with a number of rifles to work up right now. And it is bear season!

Good enough excuse for me Mike......

You going to try the little 307 out on some bears this year?

The .307 will be going afield with me shortly. There are reports of some of the big boars roaming around looking for foodstuff. Skunk cabbage and willow buds should be an attractant at the moment. The snow has to clear before there is any possibility of greenery poking through the brown. I do have the itch, that's for certain.
