I'm having a Mod 7 rebarreled to the Creed, and went with a 1/8 twist. My purpose is coyotes/occasional deer/antelope. I want to start with the lighter 100gr bullets and focus a lot on the 120-123 weights. Ordinarily, I would have went with a slower twist but 1/8 was recommended, plus I will eventually have to try out the 130 AccuBond and a few 140s. Anyone with or know of someone with a Creedmoor who uses this twist with the lighter bullets? Just wondering how accurate/fast they are getting? Thanks, Jim

My Ruger Hawkeye is an eight twist. It gives sub MOA performance the few times I've shot it. I really need to get out and work with it more.

...I haven't had much opportunity to work on load development w the lighter bullets, but the 90gr. TNT's, 95gr. V-Max, & 100gr. NBT's have all shot sub MOA @ 3100-3300fps from my 26", 1:8 A-Bolt LR Hunter...

Thanks guys, normally I like a faster twist on anything, believing that fast spin aids killing effect. I am looking forward to playing with this thing, even as I'm having a ball with my 7mm Express! I'd think a rock chuck hit with a 90-100 frangible bullet would be something to see! ha

I use the Berger 130gr H-VLD in my 6.5 Creedmoor on marmots and that bullet splits them in half.
I can't imagine the devastation from varmint bullet, I might have to try some.

My 1:8 twist ER Shaw barrel does just as well with the 120gn Hornady AMax factory ammo as it does with my 130gn Swift and 140gn Hornady SST handloads. I don't think you're going to have a problem with any .26 caliber bullet from 100-160gn with a 1:8 twist barrel, but I've never tried the lightest bullets.

That should be a cool rifle Jim. The 6.5 Creedmoor has a lot going for it and perfect for that little Model 7.

...haven't had a real opportunity to shoot any pdawgs w/ the Creedmoor yet, but the light 75gr. loads in the .25's tend to turn 'em inside out, the heavier 85gr. BT's, 87gr. TNT's & V-Max, & 90gr. SBK's cause "explosive decompression". W/ the 100gr. Sierra HP's & 110gr. TNT's in .284, you're entering the realm of "horseshoes & hand grenades" where "close" counts...

I wonder if Superformance and Power pro 2000MR would gain anything with the lighter bullets in the Creed?

Just ordered some R17, will try it in both the Creed and the 7mm Express.

Tag,
Picked up some 17 today have a couple of lbs. of H4350 so I'm ready for the Creedmore.

I just got 2#s of R17 in, and have about a pound/pound and a half left of H4350 somewhere. I am going to break in this Shilen barrel ( when I get it, I'm still waiting!) with a box of factory 120Amax. I have gathered up, so far, and will start out loading some Hornady 100Amax, Nosler 100BT & 100PT, plus I box Hornady 123SST. I should be able to get these to shoot OK. Its been over a decade since I last shot any game animal over 300yds and I should be fine with these weights out of the Creed, don't you think?

Once I go through the last thousand or 1500 or however many .30 cal match bullets I have remaining, I won't be surprised if the Green Machine gets re-barreled as either a 6.5 Creedmoor or a .260 Rem....

Looking forward to that. Bet it'll be pretty slick. Those little 6.5's are really cool cartridges.

The 140gr Nosler ballistic tip resembles a pencil more than a bullet! :) I can’t get over how long and sleek some of these 6.5mm bullets are.

Yeah, at the local club, the guys have been after me to dump the .308 and go to a 6.5 for a long time... It made sense to stick with the .308 while I was still a cop, and on-call with that rifle. Not so much anymore. So, when I run out of .308 barrel life and/or components, I may well order up a 6.5, barrel since those high BC bullets do so much better at long range!

I really liked the 6.5/284 I had, but a friend wanted it more. I killed some great exotics with it and several antelope doe out here, using nothing but the 125PT/120BT in its 24" barrel. In reformed .284 win cases it was humming, max loads pushed them both right at 3200fps ( mag velocity!) I couldn't get that in either the then new 6.5/284 Norma or Hornady cases though. No matter, it didn't need it, it was still flat! I didn't kill anything over about 315 yds with it, but it was flat! I can't imagine how flat further out a 140BT or 130AB would be in a similar case, say 6.5/06 Imp or 264 mag. The Nosler 26 is just too expensive for my tastes at this point.

Getting jazzed! Just spoke with my smith. He has the barrel on, test fired it Saturday. I asked him if it made up to 24" and he said it was 26 now. I said let's leave it long! It should make up into about 25+" and then he will put his brake on it. I like to spot my shots in a rifle like this. He still has to contour it a bit to make it fit in my Mod 7 synthetic stock and then will paint the whole smear with a paint he has that is better than Duracoat, not sure if he meant it was better for wear or was easier to work with. Satin black. Getting jazzed!

25" barrel should let you see what it can do. Let it show off a little.
I'm kind of on a mini 6.5 binge right now and am very interested in your results.
