I broke the ice this SC deer season with my Tikka 6.5x55. I was hunting a ground blind on the edge of a swamp and have a few shooter bucks on camera including this cull. I was getting a few daytime pics as well and was hopeful I'd get a crack at him. He was on camera at 4 AM last night so I knew he was still around. At 725, he emerged from the swamp and got a quartering to shot at about 50 yards. He went about 30 yards and crashed. Not a big deer, but older and a nice way to start my SC deer season!

This was my first kill with the Tikka T3x Stainless Hunter in 6.5x55. Used the 140gr Partition, Staball 6.5, Lapua brass and Federal GMM primer. Bullet hit square in the shoulder and exited behind offside shoulder with a nice exit. Little bits of lung were on the ground where he was standing and a really nice blood trail lead to him. Load is on the mild side, it averages 2654 fps and continuing to work on load development. This is my first 6.5x55 and still learning about it!

Congrats on a fine harvest!! Always good to get first blood of the year and first blood for a new rifle. I hope to get first blood with my 6.5 creed this year!

Congratulations on a fine-looking buck. I have the same rifle and as you have found it will group quite well. Personally, I think the 6.5x55 is a good around cartridge for deer hunting. This deer is just the start of more success to follow.
