6BR reach threshold

Setting up a 4 x 4 target with some butcher paper and some red paper plates to try at 1000 yards tomorrow morning at my place on the outskirts of town.
It's been ages since I tried that far due to limited range at the shooting range in town. Going to use the 6BR and two of my 6.5's and the 308. I was wondering if the 95 grain Berger VLD / 6 BR ( 2840 fps ) will stay supersonic out to a thousand yards, its a test I will do. I have high expectations with the VLD bullet. I'm sure the 147's ELD-M will work well out of the Creed and the 6.5 x 284. Testing the 165 Ballistic Tips as well. It should be cloudy out and low wind.
Has anyone experienced shooting the 6 BR at that range and what was the results?

Just for laughs I checked on the Berger 105Hybrid at 2,850 fps. It remains supersonic to 1,200 yds. Rather surprised to see that.

As I recall, some years ago the little 6BR was used to set a 1,000 yard record at a Montana rifle range.

^^^^^^ Two interesting things from that post ^^^^^^^

1. The record group was fired with off-the-shelf Hornady bullets which many shooters claim to be less accurate than Berger bullets.

2. Best accuracy was noted to be between 30-50 rounds. I'm such a clean freak that very few of my rifles ever get between 30-50 rounds before they are cleaned again.

Yup, I was checking the internet for those 105 A-Max since its way cheaper but was not able to find any. Kyle Brown was mentioned on the 6BR Info page using the 105 A-Max.
As for being a clean freak, I am one too.

My 6BR with 105 Berger boat tails shot fantastic at 1000, 2920 fps MV. I did have trouble at 1100 but I bet my dope was off and it was past dusk.

That is good speed with the 105's. I was using the slow node and since it shot well at 2840 fps with the 95's. I was not able to test yet, due to some issues with the suspension on my wife's car, since its already fixed and looking for a calm day to go try them out.
I checked estimated velocity as 1300 fps at a thousand using ProStrelok app using the 95 VLD, I can't verify unless I try it out. Will post results soon.

they one guy I shoot with has a 243 that he shoots 105 Bergers . he says the barrel is about at the end of life , but it does pretty good at 1000 . I'm sure it produces more velocity then the BR , but I'd think your BR will do just fine .

Went to check my notes, I don't see a load for the 6BR from the Nosler website for bullets over 80 grains. I am currently using 29.8 grains of Varget, but I see some reports of some using 31-32 grains with the 90-95's. Just did not need to get faster loads since its shooting so well with my current load.
Do you know how many rounds he may have fired out of that BR before its getting toasted?

I think the guy is shooting a 243 Winchester.
You should get north of 2000 rounds out of a 6br if you want it to shoot in .2 moa area.
If .5 moa is ok with you, it will last 3000 or way more.

Let your rifles tell you when it is time to clean them. It might surprise you.

My current 6br barrel needs 20 rounds to start shooting tiny groups. It's a button rifled hand lapped Criterion, this bore is smooth as glass in the borescope.
You'd expect a rough bore to behave like this, but it is what it is. And you just can't argue with results.

Even with the best custom barrels, many take more than 5 to start shooting like they are capable of.

My ole 243 VLS shooting a 105 AMax hung right with the 260 and 6.5x47s with 140 s out to 1100 yards in our club, off range LR shoots. I was getting 3000 fps and they were running 2775 ish for reference.
