Okay, maybe 35 years with the same rifle takes a little of the mystery out of the equation... It really belongs to my youngest son anymore, but he lets me take it shooting once or twice a year. Nice of the kid.
Today the mission was to adjust the zero from the 75 gr hollowpoint varmint bullets to the 100 gr Nosler solid-base deer-slammers.
Two shots to put it just a couple of inches high at 200 yards. Just a few clicks on the 3.5-10x Leupold. A satisfying 1.5" three-shot group to confirm the zero. Then I zapped the 300 yard steel gong, holding dead on. Clang! Yup. Little rifle is good to go for the upcoming deer season. Those solid-base bullets are great by the way, I scooped up a mess of them a couple of years ago when Nosler had a big sale. Accurate, and excellent performance on game. We load 'em over a near-max charge of Reloader 22.
No new photos or anything, just the same old Remington 700 BDL at the same old rifle range. What a nice way to spend some time this morning before the wind comes up... The youngster will of course do a little practice with the rifle himself, but I don't mind at all taking the little old rifle to the range now and again. It's awful nice of him to let me shoot it from time to time! He was nailing rock chucks with it earlier this year!
Here's some shots of the lad popping rock chucks with the 6mm earlier this year:
I also re-checked the 300 yard zero on my .25-06, and the 200 yard zero on the .375 H&H mag. Lots of fun!
Regards, Guy
