Our own 6mm Remmy said in another post:

"I should use this as the excuse to get that .280 Remington I so badly want!"

His concern appears to be that in the event one of his other rifles has a last minute problem, he wont have a confident back-up for his Once in a Lifetime MT Goat Hunt...

I think he is need of some friendly assistance in making a decision... 8)

Please help our friend make a sound decision and take the poll.

Come on, Remmy. We're pulling for you. Your wife wants you to avoid jeopardizing this hunt.

David, what are you waiting for! I am surprised Fotis didn't pick up on this. Seems he usually has a few links to some nice rifles when someone merely utters the desire for a rifle! Scotty

Lots of time to break in a new rifle, and get comfy with it. Sleep with it if you have to!

Dave, go for it!! It might help to think of it as a 6mm+1 instead of a .280  Whenever SPS is selling seconds, they have either 6mm or 7mm, but rarely both. This way you can always find bullets you want!!

Now thats the kinda thinking I like, complete & simple justification.

Amen Brother JD!! 8)

David,

There is only one way to scratch the 280 Rem itch and that is to go buy one.
And wouldn't it be just grand to have your trophy picture with a big Billy Goat and a 280 Rem?
Think of it this way, your dream hunt with your dream gun.
Load development is a snap, 57.0 grs RL19 and a 140 gr PT (or an AB or BT).
Should you ever get board with the 280, get her AI'd and take it to the next level.

What are you waiting for???

The genuine concern revealed on this site is stunning, even breath-taking. You simply won't find such compassion elsewhere.

David.

I bet you have noticed drawing a mountain goat tag changes your life. You deserve a new 280. Odds are you will not draw that tag again. What the hell go for it! Brian

Thanks for all the encouragement guys I do appreciate it, really! 8) My son saved up his dough and we just picked up a ZEISS CONQUEST 3.5-10X44 with the Z-600 Reticle! The clerk gave us 10% off as he had a sale promo and then Zeiss has a $50.00 rebate so the scope cost him $650.00! (good deal me thinks)

I got it home and I lapped his scope rings and mounted that sucker! I have a box of Federal 180 gr. Accubonds (special treat for the kid when he got the rifle) that I'll use to get it sighted in relatively close and working on barrel break-in, then I'll load up some for testing. Shoot one and clean, you know the drill, but after we get her close, I might shoot some groups as I'm doing the one and clean process just for kicks to see how it does.

Now that I have a 300 WSM Extreme Weather SS at my disposal in addition to the 25-06 I think I'm set pertty good boys! My son cannot wait to shoot it.

David, I cannot wait to hear what you think of that scope! That is a NICE one buddy. Your son did really well with that pick.

Yeah, I think you are ready for them goats. Get that 300 tuned up and lets hear it run. I think it is going to be very impressive. Scotty
