Was curious who has data out there for the 7 RUM with 160-180g bullets, particularly target bullets like the 162 amax, and 168/180 bergers.

Will be getting a sendero in a couple weeks and would like to minimize load work up with this fire breather if at all possible.

Thanks.

Man, what kind of speeds does a 7 RUM shoot 160-180gr bullets at? What a beast! Scotty

3300-3350 for 160s and 3150-3200 for 180s is what I've been seeing on the net lately.

Seems like a lot of guys like Retumbo with the Fed215s.

Anyone else?

Thanks.

Jorey, that sounds like the ultimate LR set up for you man. Can't imagine you would want for much more than that! The 7mm's are hard to leave behind. Seems like they always keep popping back up around me as well. Scotty

Ya know I"m thinking the same thing Scotty...Easy 1200 yard rifle in the right hands...

After having a 300 RUM and a 338 EDGE, I think the perfect one for me is the 7mm since I dont like the recoil of the bigger brothers. Its not condusive to accurate LR shooting for me.

I am also somewhat of a 7mm whore as Jake calls me haha, oh well right :)

Ever since I had to give up my 7 RM while back, theres been something missing and that was a 7 mag of some sorts. Cant beat em IMO for the ballistic performance you get out of them, considering everything else. They may not his as hard as a 30 or 33 cal, but they will spank it in every other category.

I've tossed the 7 RM, STW, and RUM back and forth for months in a Sendero. I KNOW what the 7 RM is capable of with a 24" bbl and its a great cartridge, but I wanted a little more "umph". The STW is the next logical choice, but if more is better, then why not step up to the RUM? The RUM is somewhat picky from what I've read because of the large capacity/small bore, also barrel life is definately shorter with the 7 RUM then the others. Oh well, it wont get shot much more then a few times and I'll never let it get hot, keep her clean, should last a good 1000 rounds or so before I'll need to rebarrel I'm hoping.

I was in the same boat Jorey. My 7RM is loaned to my great buddy in Idaho, so I have 0 7mm's in the safe. I love my 7RM alot. Carries 160's really well and killed alot of animals in my younger days with the 140gr PT. Just a reliable cartridge that seemed to work excellent on just about everything. Even took my only moose and caribou with it.

Well, if you are a 7mm "whore" (sorry about the language, promise I won't do it again!), I am a WSM one at that... Looking at about everything the WSM will do compared to the RM, I figured it was a good step. Nothing in the 7RUM category mind you, but plenty enough for my way of hunting. Heck, I have a ton of 160gr AB's already, so it made sense in my mind. I really think you hit the nail on the head, I love my 338 and Whelen, but overall between the 270WSM and 7WSM, they just work really well, in alot of different scenarios and don't beat the shooter up either, which is nice.

Looking forward to seeing your load work. Jake told me you just like heavy rifles! So I figured you just wanted to get a great work out humping that Sendero around! Scotty

I just finished a load workup on a 7mm RUM. I'm not at my home computer at the moment, but I'll try to see what we settled on. The owner insisted on Bergers, and the rifle did shoot well.

Jim, how was that LSS 7RUM off the bench? 3300 with a 160 is trucking! Scotty

Guilty! 7-08, 2x 7 WSM, 2x 7 RM, near the top of the list is a .280 and a RUM, a little further down the list is a Weatherby!

I'm too lazy to look, but what's the twist on the Sendero barrel? Are all RUMs twisted the same?

It never worked out, but I was going to look at a used M70 Stainless 7 RM last weekend. Might happen next trip home.

Man, yeah, I would say you have us all beat Kurt. That is a bunch of 7mm's! I haven't ever owned a small 7mm, so maybe one I will look at something like that for my daughter as she gets a little older! Scotty

The 7mm RUM has a 1:9 twist in the Remington 700.

Jorey,

You have a great rifle platform, treat her good and run the 160 gr AB through her! Just buy seconds and save money.

A 7-08 would be great in an M70 FWT Compact! Might make her brother a little jealous, though.

I'm not too worried about it. I have a feeling he will get a proper M70 before he leaves the house for good. Can't send the boy out into the world without an M70 can I? Next thing you know he will sporting an afro and trying to be a fisherman! Scotty

Thanks, JD. In the not too distant past, I've toyed with getting a 7RUM in an SPS as a donor for a .338 Edge, after I waste the stock barrel. For me, I can't see much use for anything lighter than a 160 in such a large case. Those Brand B 180s would sure be something in a RUM, though!
