remingtonman_25_06, you know I've been a fan of the 7mm Rem mag for a long time.
Always wondered though about the 160 - 175 gr 7mm bullets moved out even faster, via the STW or the RUM case... Gives a long-range shooter something to think about for sure.
JD's comments on easy recoil with a 160 at 3300+ fps were enough to trigger me to start looking at Rem Ultra Mags again - the only one I ever owned was a .300 RUM in a 700 CDL. Nice rifle, but not quite what I wanted. Probably should have kept that one and done more load work with it. That thing would boot a 200 gr Partition at 3200 fps. Recoil was tolerable, but not what I'd call mild. Accuracy was good too.
Best of luck to you with the 7mm RUM! Bryce Towsley wrote a good article on it some years ago, published in American Rifleman if I recall correctly. I don't remember the specifics, but he was favorably impressed.
