7mm Rem Mag pet loads

I can't imagine who would say that Nosler brass creates higher pressure. I've used Nosler brass for several cartridges and never noticed any problems. It is always a good idea to drop back a few percent in charge whenever changing any component. N560 would be good with heavier bullets, being double-base. However, remember that it will burn hotter, so at higher charges it will erode the throat somewhat more quickly if you don't keep it clean and if you shoot it hot.

Scotty, H870 with 175 grain Nosler PT was a phenomenal load in my 7 RM. I'm hoarding the last three pounds of that powder, reserving it primarily for that load.

Mmmmm. Took my big elk 10 years ago with H870 and a Nosler 175 grain Partition... NICE COMBO!

Too bad the world ran out of H870. :(

Can anyone give me a starting OAL for a Weatherby Vanguard 150 gr Partition load ?
Going to start with IMR 4831 because I have it for my .25-06.
Thanks - Steve

I guess I am a little different as I do use IMR4350 in 2 different 7mm mags & they touch 3000fps ) using Win brass & CCI mag primers:) oh yes the loads is 60grs.
PS. That is under the 160gr. ABs
Blessings,
Dan

As dan also mentioned, my most accurate load in my 7mm mag. is/was 60 gr. H-4350, with 160 gr Nolser PT. Elk don't seem to like it much.

I have lots of pet loads for the few 7 mags I've had and played with over years.

My 3 favorite powders are RL22, H1000 and retumbo.

68.5g RL22 with 140g NBT shot lights out of a rem 700.

68g H1000 shot awesome with 162g amax from the same rem 700

70g retumbo with 162 amax is also another very good one, this one coming from my model 70.

I think when I return and start goofing around with my 7RM again, it will be with 175 PT's. I am thinking of giving RL25 a try in it, seems like it looks pretty good on paper, we shall see if the old Model 70 likes it. Haven't shot that rifle in a long while, so it should be fun working with the old guy!

This is my only Long Action.... a Tikka 695 in 7mm Remington Magnum.

I was banging steel at 1000 yards with it in April with some test loads of 57 grains of H4350 under a Hornady 162 grn BTHP.

The scope in the photo is a Redfield 4-10 power. Currently it wears a Nikko-Stirling 4-16 X 50 Side Focus NightEater. The jury is still out on the Nikko....but I do need more optics for shooting above 500 yards.

Have some test loads with 130 grain Speer BT Spitzers made up when the heat lets up a bit for shooting.

I'm reading this read carefully and taking copiuos notes.... I'll try anything once...somethings twice...and if the wife don't catch me...three times....

no idea how many grains ... but Dads favorite and now only load has always been 130 Gr Speer boat tails and some 4350. Poison on deer. CL

My 7mm Rem Mag Mauser uses IMR 4350 @ 61.0 grs with the 160 Partition bullet and Fed 215 Mag Match or 66.0 grs of IMR 7828 SSC. Groups are about 3/4 MOA with either IMR 7828 SSC is a little faster @ 3060 fps. These loads are max and should be approached from below.

Seems I cannot get to 3000fps with any kind of accuracy even with a 26" bbl with 160-162s from my 7 mags.

No doubt I can reach 3000fps, but groups are usually 1"-1.25" at 100 yards. If I back off to 2850-2900 groups will go down around the 1/2" mark.

It amazes me how well some of your guys shoot 160s at 3000+ and still shoot great.

I would just like to have 3000fps and 1/2" MOA. That shouldn't be asking to much but my most accurtae loads with 5-6 powders tried from RL-19-Retumbo have been at that 2850-2900 mark and I just feel that is to slow for a 7 mag with a 160 and a 26" bbl...

Only powder I haven't had chance to play with is 7828. If I get my hands on some ill give her a whirl.

65g of RL22 is only giving me 2965fps with the 162g amax, no pressure signs. According to QL, 68.3g is MAX @ 3135fps...could slowly bump her up in .5g increments see if things tighten up any, as well as trying to reach 3000+.

I have been loading for the 7mm mag for a number of years and I been placing the 160 AccuBond over top of 60grs of IMR 4350 it just under 3000fps and groups are .75@ 100yds.
The two rifles that use that load are a CDL and a Krico both have 26" tubes.

Blessings,
Dan

In the FWIW column, IMR 7828 SSC has been the most accurate and highest velocity powder in both my 7mm Mag and .340 Mag. I do not use the Reloader brand powders, just because, and Weatherby's own loads were with 7828 SSC approach their published factory velocities. That is good enough for me.
