Shot the M700 LSS 7mm RUM loaded up with the 160 gr AB and Retumbo.
COL was set to fit the magazine, 3.360".

91.0 grs went 3193 fps

92.0 grs went 3215 fps ES 32 SD 16
4 shot group went 1.325" (center diamond)

93.0 grs went 3278 fps ES 39 SD 19
3 shot group went 1.256" (upper right diamond)

94.0 grs went 3319 fps ES 76 SD 31
4 shot group was 1.144", 3 shots are .789" (Lower right diamond, hitting 5 o'clock of the center diamond)
This load has me wondering. I had one low reading, 3281 fps and one flier.

After I shot these groups, I made a few adjustments to get a 100 yd zero and Trevor shot off the remaining loads. He had a nice 1.5" group with all the left over loads.

I am going to reshoot 94.0 grs and also try seating a little deeper to see if I can get the group a little tighter.

This is an impressive round. I shot this rifle last year at 400 yds with the Remington factory 175 gr Swift A-Frames and was hitting a dinner plate size rock. Once I get the 160 gr AB zeroed in at 300 yds, I will see what she will do at 300 yds.

you may have a nice surprise when you try seating deeper.
when i tested a load for my 300 rum with the 200 AccuBond i tried at first at mag lenght 3.650" and it did 1.75" for 5 shot.
than i tried the same load at 3.600" and it did .70".
that's my load from now on 8)

Here is a picture of Trevor's M700 LSS 7mm RUM with a Simmons 2.8-10x44mm Aetec scope.

That is a great looking rifle and man, that 160gr AccuBond looks SMALL in that RUM! Good shooting Jim, it looks like you are in good shape with 94gr's and hopefully seating deeper gets you in the sub inch range. Scotty

Went back to the range today to try different seating depths.

Load is the 160 gr AB with 94.0 grs Retumbo.
COL 3.650" yielded an average MV of 3316 fps, ES 119 and SD 47
Accuracy was questionable, 2 shots on top of each other twice but 1.3" apart.

COL 3.640" yielded an average MV of 3339 fps, ES 36 and SD 16
Accuracy was 1.0"

COL 3.625" yielded an average MV of 3337 fps, ES 63 and SD 27
Accuracy was .75" for 3 shots, total for 4 shots was 1.125'.

I am thinking that this rifle likes a lot of jump.

Think I am going to reshoot the 3.625" load and also try backing down the powder charge to 93.5 grs. I'm pretty sure I am almost there.

JD, all my long rage loads get at least .030" jump, accuracy tends to be better and velocity is up. I run those 160 accubonds at 3575 from my 7mm Allen and man what an awesome bullet!

I shot the 7mm RUM this evening into a water jug at 175 yds. The 160 gr AB started at a MV of 3339 fps and struck the water jug with an impact velocity of 3050 fps. This was one of the most impressive impacts I have ever seen!
I am a state certified hunter safety instructor and we give the students some demostrations. We shoot a water jug at 175 yds to illistrate the power of a high powered rifle. Saturday we are going to demonstrate the energy of the 7mm RUM.

Great job JD !

As stated above, that little 7mm dia sure looks funny in that case.

Not sure what I'm saying though - sure would like a 6.5 RUM

I can only imagine the expressions your studends are going to have this weekend after seeing the milk jugs disappear......

Mark, that 6.5RUM would be a beast! I imagine you could hit targets in nearby states with the right combo! Scotty

Mark can deer hunt with me from his house.

I think the 7mm RUM is a great round. My only concern is barrel life. It may be too much of a good thing. I would think a 6.5mm RUM would be even shorter.

JD338

If you sight that 7 RUM 3" high at 100 yards you can hold in the center of a deers front shoulder out to 450 yards and not have worry about shooting over or under it. I have a 264 Win mag with a 27 3/4" barrel and it will push a 130 AB 3350 fps. It shoots like a string for a far piece. My buddy had a 7mm STW before they came out with the RUM. That thing shot flat. He killed two deer with one shot at a little over 300 yards using 140 Partitions. Dropped them both in their tracks. A buck and a doe. Filled both his tags for the day for the cost of one bullet. I always told him that he was a cheep son of a gun.

Your probably right, I wouldn't imagine you would want to go blasting away all the time with it. I think, I could make it last awhile though. For the most part, I find a load I like and try to stick with it, and only shoot it about 50x a year for practice and such. It is a flat shooter though. Couldn't ask for much more if you only owned one rifle! I think you would have your bases well covered! Scotty

I agree Scotty.

Just a guess here but I am thinking 1200-1500 rounds if you keep her clean and cool.
