This last saturday started playing with a rifle from a good friend.-
Weatherby MKv action, 28" shilen barrel, magnaported by Bill Wiseman,
stock and bedding by BillW, and teflon coated-Swarovski 4x12 scope.-
Started playing with a load from my friend.- Nosler Ballistic Tip 140gr-h1000 82gr-r/p cases,cci250.- grouped 4 in .699" with some vertical stringing, all ok but when tested in my chrono o deception 3125fps, thats what I get from my 7mm Mag.
Later started playing with some very questionable loads Custom Built in San Antonio Tx IR loads- Nosler 140 AccuBond, r/p cases, powder and primer not known, and I think very $- 2900fps with that load- Thats what they call Custom??
This next week we will start playing with some loads, the rifle has a very good potential, I expect 3300-3350fps with some safe loads.
On the past Ive seen some experiences with the Cal.- any comments.
thanks

Some of the early load data for the STW was very weak. Much of it was around 44,000 psi. Did they think we were loading this in a Lever action :? Much of the newer loading data is better, but not all of it.

With the 140's you may wish to consider H4831, H450, and RL22. I wouldn't go any faster then those powders. With the 28" barrel, you should also have good luck with the slower powders. WC869 should also work well with the 140's.

I have used Retumbo and 139 grain Hornady InterBonds to yield 3325 fps and good groups, and H4831 with Nosler 140 grain BT to yield 3336 fps and sub-MOA groups. These were in a rifle with a 24 inch barrel. I did not load these to maximum pressures to achieve these velocities. The loads you were using do seem somewhat mild for the STW.

My best group ever was 80 gr IMR 7828 from my sendero with 140 ballistic tips. Close to 3500 fps and 1.25" 1.5" at 300 yards.

7STW with a 27" Shilen
77.0g IMR4831 139gr IntrB Fed215M 3512fps avg. OAL: 3.600
or
75.5gr IMR4350 139gr IntrB Fed215M 3426fps avg OAL: 3.600

these both will cloverleaf in my STW. Looking to try some 160gr Partitions next.

BTW....This is what I got out of my 7STW last week with H1000, 139gr Hornady IB's, 8mmRem cases necked down. The velocities are the avg of 3 shot groups
82.0gr H1000 139gr IntrB Fed215M 3328fps OAL: 3.600
84.0gr H1000 139gr IntrB Fed215M 3395fps OAL: 3.600
86.0gr H1000 139gr IntrB Fed215M 3463fps OAL: 3.600
They started to show signs of pressure at 86gr. I would back off to 84gr FOR ME, IN MY GUN.
My best powder had been imr4831. Consistent velocities and good groups.

No es nada....

Next week is the 7mm bee party....

My 140 gr load is 86gr. of H-1000 behind a 140 gr BT, yields 3550 fps, this is from a 9 twist 26" lilja, 88 gr gives me 3602 fps but also shows pressure signs with new rem. cases.
