7x57 On The Way

A great shooter as well. I had a mould built by Accurate Moulds for a 260 gr bullet that shoots bugholes...IF I do my part. I found 10.5 gr of HS-6 with this bullet is superbly accurate. This revolver is for sure a keeper. That's 12 shots.

Oh my ! Makes my thumb throb just thinking about running a box thru that beauty ! I found a glove after first couple cylinder's that checkering was tearing my thumb up  lotta fun and open carry is legal in NM as long as ya do not go into the wrong establishments! nice shot I might add !

I've never had to use a glove with the M29. I just found a pic of the bullet I shot that group with. It's actually more accurate than the famous Keith bullet...429421, I think it is. This bullet has a large meplat to say the least and cuts great holes in targets.

VERY BEAUTIFUL 7x57! It is a cartridge that makes me smile really big. My son has an older 7x57 Push feeder XTR Featherweight. It is beautifully accurate and ultimately, loaded to 60K PSI like the 30-06 it is a really a big performer. Not sure what bullets your looking at using, but here are a couple sneak peeks at the old Mauser.

Not such a weakling some would think. I love the rifle and cartridge.

Beautiful handguns as well. I love those old WFN cast bullets in the 44!

Wow-thanks for all that info. Actually, I've had a hard time finding 150-160 gr bullets. Last night I ordered some 140 gr Nosler BT's and some Hornady Interlock's in the same weight but, I'm still looking. I have RL15 and 19 but wouldn't you know it, no RL17. I'll probably try IMR 4350 and RL19 to see how they perform with those 140 grainers.

RL19 and the 140 BT's are very good in my son's rifle. Lots of little groups.

17 is good, 4350 works well and seems to be a proven powder as well.

You can't beat that. I'll bet that 52 gr charge is near a max load but it sure did the job. I think this caliber is like the 22-250-hard to find a bad powder that doesn't work well.

Good man I got one in a new FW and 150PT went under 3/4" 7-9 through the barrel H414 @ 48gr according to QL got about 3 gr to work up to max. I need to get on the bench that's one fun rifle might be my favorite 7mm I have.

Cabelas has me a little aggravated. I'm not getting much in the realm of communication from them as to whether the received my LGS FFl copy or not. I had the guys at my dealer email and fax them a copy and asked them to let me know when they received it. I've had to call them three times. Today I called and the guy I bought the rifle from wasn't there and I was told he was the only one handling this and they couldn't get into the system...whatever that meant.

I noticed they have about six 7x57's shown on their website and they all look like mine! Reading the caveat at the bottom of the description on each it indicated the photo shown is a stock photo and the actual rifle may have a different grain pattern. That made me nervous and read the description of the one I bought and there is no caveat to that affect so, they must have used a photo of it to show the others. I'm going to be an unhappy camper if the one I thought I bought is not the one pictured.

I live right near the PA Cabela's.

This does not shock me in the least, unfortunately.

They are unable to give me a definitive answer on a warranty issue, either. The answer depends on whom I ask, the phase of the moon, what they had for breakfast, and if Jupiter is in Sagittarius, or something to that effect.

If you want to be sure, you will have to hound them till someone pulls out YOUR rifle and looks at it, and at that, the someone you get on the phone may only have a vague idea of what separates a rifle from a shotgun.

Rest assured, you'll get a 7x57 Winchester of the type you ordered. Unfortunately, my dealing with Cabela's put me on alert on this one, and I'm nervous for you.

The good news, however, is that I've seen this model of the M70 in the store by me, and ALL the 7x57's have been stocked in a very, very nice wood. I haven't seen a dog in the bunch. Where I saw a few was in the batch of the 50th Anniv rifles they almost had to give away to get rid of....some of those had amazing wood. Some looked like they used the pallets the rifles were shipped on to then make stocks.

The 257's and 7x57's I've seen, and there have been a handful of both, were all lookers.

I finally got a call from them this morning that they did receive the FFL copy from my deler. They should have, they sent it to them three times. He said it would ship Monday as they ship Mondays and Tuesdays to keep the rifles from sitting on the dock all weekend.

If you look at the six 7x57's the Thornton, CO store has the photos all look alike. As mentioned all of them except one have the caveat at the bottom description that they are stock photos. The one I bought does not have that caveat s,o I'm hoping what I saw is what I get. Apparently, they took one picture of that rifle and displayed it on their website for all the ones they have listed. So, you don't know what the others really look like.

Wow! Great cartridge, wood, and rifle! Gotta say, I'm with Wildgene on this one in thinking it would look pretty slick with a little 2.5x8 Leupold on top!
Take Care,
Joe
