7x57 quikload request

The 7x57 needs no improvement other than being loading to proper modern pressure levels. In modern rifle that come chambered to the .270 Win., the same rifles in 7x57 loaded to .270 Win. pressure levels would be just fine.
One of the big problems preventing proper load levels is not just the older 93 and 95 Mausers but modern gunsmiths have chambered the rifles with various different throat lengths. What may work in a Winchester M70 may be way over pressure in a Remington M70 or Ruger &&. Even custom gun have throats even more disparate throat lengths than the commercial guns.
Prime examples, My M70 FWT and Ruger #1 can use the same top level loads without a problem but loads have to be cut back quite a bit for the custom Mauser I have. As a matter of fact, even the rather mild Winchester 145 gr. Power Points show slight signs of high pressure and higher velocity than the same ammo in the other two rifles. Load work up for the Mauser is an ongoing project at this time that is on hold due to my wife's illness.

Mine Prayers too Paul...my little wife just got through with a good scare...Lumpectomy for "marker" Atypical cells. She's fine now, no cancer even in the excised tissue. Thank God for wives! (y)
 
My wife had a stroke on 2 APR16. Twenty-eight days in the hospital,40 days in home therapy. I figure she's recovered about 60 percent but her memory is shot. Kind of makes it hard to leave her alone for any length of time.

Paul,

Caring for a loved one felled by stroke is one of the most thankless and challenging tasks any individual will ever be assigned. May the Good Lord be merciful to her and to you, granting her recovery and you strength. I've visited far too many good people bravely facing an uncertain future as result of stroke.

RL17 is your friend here Jim. It has worked REALLY well in my boy's 7x57.
 
Sheboygin! Those are some great loads all! I would think that even at 2600, that 175PT would be a real thumper. Any faster is just added gravy, wow. The speeds/pressures you guys listed for me will keep me happy, even if I end up not getting there, ie. accuracy over speed. The great part about 7mm bullets I've seen through the years ( I've used 280/280AI/7mm Mag and with the 150 PT/BT mostly!) is they kill just fine at about "any speed", ha. I never loaded my Mod 700 Classic 257 Roberts to the old pressure limits, especially when I had it Improved. I never had an issue with it, cases lasted forever. ( Remington)
I'll give some feedback. In meantime, later this summer I will do some water jug testing. What distance do you shoot your water jugs at Scotty, close or far or does it just depend what you want to see it do?
 
The 175 gr load I listed came from the Nosler Reloading manual. Just one difference,they list 50.5 grains as max for the VV N-165. I decided to live on the wild side and added the .5 grain,velocity is the same though. ;)

Is this load also in Privi brass? Do you "prep" your cases i.e. deburr flash hole, uniform primer pockets, weigh cases with the privy and how many rounds do you normally get per case? I've read that the privy 308 was kinda brittle.
 
Yes,it is Privi brass. No,I don't prep the cases. Right now,have only used them twice and so far,so good.
 
Thanks Pard. I've always worked up a good load , then load 50 in new brass ( or at most, once fired in that rifle) set aside for hunting. I then take another 20-50 and use them repeatedly for practice, zeroing, etc. In that way I can get a good idea how long they last and it lowers the risk of a failed case on the hunt. I get good mileage that way, ha. I've still got some 35 Whelen AI loads from 1996, originally loaded in new, only fireformed cases. Through the years, other than watching trim length of course, deburring flasholes has been the payoff, even more so than uniforming primer pockets. Of course, Norma, Nosler, lapua, I've never had a need to do either. I have knocked 1/2" off my groups by prepping cases like WW, Remington, Federal, etc. I even had good results prepping levergun ammo. I have also ran into some rifles that it just didn't matter what I did to the brass, ha. Fun hobby for sure...
 
Could I get QL Data for the 140 AccuBond? SPS had a sale on both them and the 175 Partition! I ordered both. Going to wait and see what loads all my available bullets prefer "before" I start stocking ( not hoarding! :) ) up. I did receive a box of Norma 156gr ammo from Cabela's yesterday ( ordered them "before" I found a place $10 cheaper!) and they look "smashing". :)

That bullet is a screamer with RL17 in my boys rifle. I wanna say I was around 2920'ish with it in the Norma brass. It was a toss up between it and the 150 Partition when it is time to hunt.

Not near QL right now, but I think it would be a great place to start.
