8mm rem mag

Bill, do you have a picture of this Remington! Man, it would be nice to see it. Sounds like a sweetheart. Scotty

I bought one the year after they came out. It will shoot farther then I can. Got some Nosler Custom Competition, 200 grain coming. Going to see how far they will shoot. I will try Ramshot Magnum first.

I don't have a picture of the rifle but will take one and post it.

If magnum don't work out try 7828.

I think the factory used to load much hotter than they do these days and the 220 grain was a bruiser! I'm not very recoil sensitive as I use a 300 Wby with 200 grainers at over 3000 fps all the time. I guess my buddy that owned the rifle back in those days was a little recoil shy after it broke his collar bone when he shot a spike from the prone position! Now if you want to talk recoil my 340 with 225 grainers at 3100 will get your attention.

I worked with a new 8mm RM a couple of months back. It was certainly a pleasure to shoot. It was new and the owner requested a load built with 200 grain TSX bullets. I almost couldn't miss with that rifle. Everything shot amazingly well. I hadn't worked with the cartridge for some time, but it did create a desire to weigh finding one on the market.

That is a monster of a round, right up there in stature with the 340 WBY and 338 RUMs of the world. Scotty

Guys, correct me if I'm wrong on this but I believe this is where the 7MMSTW came from. Nothing other than necking the 8MM down to .284. Gotta give Layne Simpson some credit in this regard.

You are correct on both accounts.

Did you try any accubonds? I did, and either the AB did not like the powder (magnum), seating depth .030 off the lands or the gun don't like AB because I was lucky to be hitting paper, 4-6 inch groups.

I know where there was (still might be ) a 700 BDL in perfect condition, shot very little.

That 7STW was the 7mm King until the RUM showed up. Still a pretty hot 7 though. Scotty

Very nice, I am not too scared of those older Remington's! That would make one heck of an awesome elk/bear rifle out West. Scotty

Bill,

I did not try AccuBonds as the owner of this rifle wanted a load built around the TSX.

Can't blame him as the TSX is a fine hunting bullet. Funny thing, I have had better accuracy with the TSX than the TTSX, go figure.

Great group, great classic. How about a pic of that thunder stick.

I added pictures of the rifle but in all fairness to the rifle I'm not so good with a camera, hell I couldn't even get a job at wal-mart taking year book pictures I'm so bad.

Bill, I took the same voes as you, "Whats yours is mine and whats mini is mine".
The good news is that our brides don't want our rifles.

JD338

The sad part is that some day when I'm gone she'll sell them for what I told her I paid for them.
