90 AB in 6-284

RR just a thought, but with H4831SC, H1000, or maybe IMR7828, you might consider working up your loads using magnum primers. I played a bit with H4831SC in my Ruger 1B in 6mm with the 100 gr. Partition and magnum primers, and it shot as well with same fps as the IMR4350 load I had, and was not showing any signs of pressure. The IMR4350 load was just chronographed at 3140 fps. With IMR4350 I just use standard large rifle primers.

I am just starting to play with the 90 gr AccuBond for fun to see what it might do, but the Partition works so well, it's kind of hard to change it over. I'm still going to load some more up and try and see what it might do. Last time out H100V showed some promise over the IMR4350.

With that case capacity and speed you are able to get with that 6-284 have you thought about trying the 90 gr. E-tip? Man have I been impressed with that bullet and it has a higher BC than the 100 gr. Partition, or 90 gr. AccuBond! I my boys Ruger MKII with H100V, I shot each of three rifles through the chronograph to get fps for the different length barrels in 6mm's I was shooting. The 90 gr. E-tip in the 22" barrel on the Ruger was 3170 fps! Smoking along pretty good. He used it to kill his first elk two years ago at 350 yards!

I've heard a couple folks mention also that the Accubonds seem to like a bit of jump to the lands, maybe not as much as the E-tips want, but still a bit of jump. Playing with some seating depth might work. With one of the load I had with H100V, I think playing with the seating depth might get me a winner.

Good luck. Hope this helps.

That's where I'm thinking I might have to go too. I'm way out at 2.899" on mine and the 3-3 shot groups have been atrocious at best 2-3" I'm thinking some jump might help. I will be reshooting to see if it wasn't me this week and finding a load that's decent powder wise and work on depth from there. If I remember right on my test ladder the lower pressure loads did okay but once I got her cooking she kinda took off. Was kinda like finding a fart in a frying pan!

Well, I shot some H4831SC with the Accubonds. Charges were 53.0 to 56.0 grains. It started looking like the AB is just a no-go, but the 55.5 charge gave me a 3-shot group just over 3/4 inch. It may have just been a fluke, but I'll shoot that charge again with a few variances in seating depth and maybe it will work out. Velocity was 3350 fps, not bad at all. I'm just a bit skeptical when a half grain of powder either way opens things up to over two inches! Maybe the AB is just a bit fussy. I can always just go back to the 95-grain Partition though. It seemed a lot more cooperative. We'll see how it goes.

In case anyone is interested, I went back to 95-grain Partitions and drove them with Magnum. Groups were about half the size the Accubonds were producing. I never did try different primers or seating significantly deeper to see what would happen with the ABs, there are just too many variables and possibilities and range time is precious...and then there's the limited barrel life of a rifle chambered in 6-284 to consider!

So, after seeing that Partitions seem to be so much more cooperative than ABs, I loaded up some more of the 95s driven by H4831SC---first time with this combo. My hottest trial load gave me a 3-shot group just over 1/2 inch. My load plan is already written and I'll be trying that same charge with seating depths varied plus-and-minus from my starting point.

I apologize to all who were hoping to see nothing but glowing reports on the 6mm AccuBond, but I can't deliver on that wish. Accubonds have only worked for me in my .35 Whelen and maybe it has something to do with the way I select powders and primers, or maybe it has to do with how far I go with deeper seating...whatever the case may be, I'll always be a fan of the Partition!

Can't win them all RR! At least you have a GREAT fallback. I will be trying the 90 AB's in my boys rifle come Sept. Looking forward to trying them out. Hope they work, I bought 300 of the suckers!
