A Brace of Rugers

You have a couple of beauts there, Doc. I'm interesting to find out what you learn with the Creedmoor, so I can be like Scotty and just pick your brain about it. :) (Assuming I ever get around to shooting my Creedmoor. :( )

There's not much left to pick in this brain, Kurt. However, I do hope it shoots. As with most of my rifles, I'm in for a penny, in for a pound. So, if it doesn't meet my standard...

Mike, awesome pair of rifles! Man, those Rugers are dressed up very nice! Great work by your gunsmiths!

I don't think a 22" barrel is going to make a hill of beans difference to you or anybody else on the Whelen. Jim gets just shy of 2600 (22") with the 250 PT and I get just over 2600 with it (24"). I almost laugh a touch when everyone accuses the Whelen of a great dark timber rifle, it is, but it also shoots pretty danged flat out to 350-400 yards...

I truly am not concerned about the 22 inch barrel. It was a minor glitch on an otherwise excellent job by the smiths.

I am sitting here waiting to hear how the 250 PT's work with RL15 Mike. I am crossing my fingers it is an easy load work up for you.

Mike, That is a fine looking pair of Rugers you have there! I hope Pac Nor did a better job putting them togeather than they did taking instructions.

Jake,

PacNor didn't do the work. I had a local group do the work. They actually do excellent work, but it was a miscommunication with another individual that created the confusion. I really am not concerned. Twenty-two inches is pretty much the standard on most rifles, so it will work just fine.

I hope not. That's what length I have on my Classic. I'd hate to think I was hunting with a mistake all these years!

Well, now, Kurt, perhaps you have been hunting with a mistake! Though I've never quite forgive myself for letting my Classic chambered in the Whelen get away. I didn't just let it go, I pushed it out the door.

I got back my 35 Whelen and my 6.5 Creedmoor this week. It is supposed to warm by next week, so my anticipation is that I should be able to get to the range and do some shooting.

The Whelen is a Hawkeye that received a 22 inch PacNor 12 twist barrel. It was previously pillar bedded. It is topped with a Kahles 3-9 X 42 scope. I will begin working up loads for this rifle shortly. Break-in should take place next week. I'll see what it does at that time.

Oh Mike, I forgot to mention, you get the motivational award for the Marine placard in the background, that almost guarantees it'll be a shooter. It is being supported by the Marine Rifleman of the past!

Yeah, that was part of my birthday gift from my daughter last year. The other sign is from my hunting partner, Gil. He wasn't aware of the source of the quote until I informed him, then it was all the funnier for him.

What's the recoil pad and LOP on those rifles?

I put either a LimbSaver (which is on either of these rifles) or a Pachmayr Decelerator pad on each of my rifles. LOP is held at 13.5 inches.

My Ruger 77 in 280 measures at 13.625 and I was thinking about ordering a Pachmayr and doing a little work on the stock to shorten in up to 13.5. My new stock for my project came in and it's at 13.5 with the Pach and it shoulders great plus with that pad you can pull in into your shoulder hard and kinda shorten it a touch more.
