A Good day in the woods!

Well...I didn't get a chance to hunt during early bow season but did do some still hunting with my Remington 7MM-08 CDL. Went out late Saturday morning after a light snow quit falling...
I was moving very slowly along a steep ridge overlooking a cedar swamp...when I noticed a movement back in the conifers. I sat down behind a tree stump and watched as this buck peeks out looking down the edge of the swamp.
I have a VERY small window which to put a 140gr Nosler AccuBond into the sweet spot behind the shoulder...using the stump to steady my aim I squeezed off an accurate shot. He only made 40 yards.
He is a very typical, big bodied 2 1/2 yr old Upper Peninsula whitetail...his left brow tine was recently broken off...probably from fighting.

I have shot bigger whitetail bucks but not many still hunting. It is probably the most challenging (and rewarding) style of hunting. Truly a lost art in todays world of baitpiles, feeders, food plots etc...
Its the only way my Dad and GrandPa hunted.
I do hunt over bait also...just really enjoy doing it "the old fashioned way" during the rifle season.

The 7MM Nosler AccuBond performed flawlessly...even at only 60 yds...and close to 3000 fps... it entered through the 4th rib exited through the 3rd rib on the off side and blew through the back edge of the shoulder blade. All this with an exit diameter of a quarter!
Less than 50 yds from initial impact to recovery...

Thanks Long! This 7MM-08 CDL is a keeper! 8)

Nice buck, done the old way. I respect that.

Those 700 CDL's are good looking rifles too!
