Alliant Powders

I've discontinued using alliant powders because of Re-22, temp sensative I can deal with, the lot to lot varience is attrocious.

Oh man this is what I get for taking the family for a vacation to mexico. I come back and read this. I can live with out some of the RL's even though buy best 180 load in my 300 win is over RL-22 I have enough to keep me going for a good while. But if they drop RL-15 I aint going to be a happy camper now that I have a dialed in load for my 35 Whelen not to mention my 308 plus a couple of others guess it is time to go shopping for as much RL-15 as I can get my hands on. Seems the reinvention of the wheel never ever stops.

Seems like IMR7828 is pretty close as a few have said on here. It shot just about identical to RL22 in my 270WSM, so all is not lost, but I do hate to rework good shooting loads, and I have a few of them with RL22...

I've had an Email in to Alliant for a couple of days. However, I have received no answer. It makes sense that they would not want to duplicate burn rates or applications, but it is inconvenient. It reminds me of Winchester and WMR and WXR. Consequently, I haven't been in a big hurry to focus on W780 Supreme as result of their prior decisions. Undoubtedly, if Alliant does change powders, they will have some others to recommend. Nevertheless, it will mean working up favourite loads again.

I also sent an Email to Alliant and this was the response. Lee

That rumor is not true. Thanks for your note.

Good to hear, Lee. That will go a long way toward comforting many people.

Awesome! That is GREAT to hear. Thanks Lee

YES!!! The panic is over, and a passing note, Alliant has corrected as of late any big variation in RL-22 as my load work with my rifles have attested to when changing lots over the last three years. Also, MRP (although contrary to rumors is not the same a RL-22 but is very close, and if you will check out Quick Load you will see that RL-22 and MRP do not have the same loads for a given cartridges and bullet weights) will give slightly faster velocities on average but obtaining accuracy is about the same as RL-22. IMR7828 I have found easier to find an accurate load and from group to group accuracy has been more consistent than RL-22 or MRP.

Good news for sure but I am still going to pick up a 8 lber.

Yes, for two reasons, 1. for having the same lot for a lot of loads, and 2. just in case it is dropped for some reason.

Amen, it sure would be hard to adjust when you consider all that RL-22 covers and covers well!!!!

You and I both buddy!

Oh, and it is actually Jim and your fault. I was kinda happy with IMR4831 till I tried RL22 and the skies opened up!

RL 15 & 22 i dont think i could live with out

15 is the only thing my 308 likes
and 22 is the only thing my 300 WIN likes

There have been supply issues with the Reloader series powders availability back when it was Hercules, before during the past 40 years. I used to use RL15, 19 & 22 and then could not buy them for quite a while. I switched back to Hodgdon and IMR powders during this last supply blip 3 years ago and I am determined to use what I can buy easily and is always there when I need it.
